That is so encouraging! Especially for an Anglican like myself. Thank you for posting that I am with him in thinking that poverty is a much better focus for the Church (and in fact non-Christians too) than an issue which, although I have an opinion on it, is clearly not going to resolved anytime soon in the Church...
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a man of principle. He says what he means - with feeling and regardless of the implications. I'll have to look - but I'm sure I said this here before... Anyway - despite the fact that I have little time for organised religion in any form - he is a man for whom I have enormous respect. What HE says is how the church SHOULD be. *EDIT* I thought so... http://emptyclosets.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4849 Quotes from Desmond Tutu, from a link in the earlier thread: "If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn't worship that God." and: "It is a perversion if you say to me that a person chooses to be homosexual." "You must be crazy to choose a way of life that exposes you to a kind of hatred." "It's like saying you choose to be black in a race-infected society." This from a 77 year old (incidentally, it was his birthday yesterday) African priest who has fathered 4 children. He is an amazing man.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu makes me sad, in a way; he makes me think of what a wonderful thing religion could be. I hate religion because it's a pale shadow of such a beautiful thing, and he's one of the few beacons of actual religion left.
