I find this really sweet. We need more of these shelters, if you ask me.

Yeah, we really do. I was homeless as a teen and had to hide that I was gay in order to avoid unpleasant situations. If there would have been a place like this available to me back then, it would have made a huge difference.

I think this is important from the article.

If you saw the other thread, it's the same kid. All the money he got? He's giving some of it away to this organization to help other kids in similar situations. It makes me very happy.

This makes me very happy. At the very least, it means that my money went to the right place. I was concerned that I hadn't properly researched the authenticity of the campaign, and I was sending my money to some random fraudster. Also, Chip and Gen had raised concerns. Notably, Gen was concerned that the funds should be going to organizations like this one, so it's good that some money did indeed go that way.

I still hope Daniel keeps most of it, just because I want him to go to college and be debt-free or as near to debt-free as he can be.

Of course only time will tell how responsible Daniel ends up being with such a windfall.

Most of all, I'm heartened that Daniel understand what family he belongs to.

Why does it have to be for gay teens exclusively? We are a small minority. Wouldn't it be more beneficial for any homeless teens, regardless of sexuality?

This response strikes me of negativity.

Yes, we're a minority, and we're also a minority of the homeless, but it's still important for people to know, at least on a psychological level that there are people who understand our needs.

You're also quite welcome to read yourself some studies. It turns out that LGBT youth represent a disproportionately large amount of homeless youth.

    For reasons you might imagine.

Here are the statistics given by the National Coalition for the Homeless.

As any one single group, LGBT people make up a disproportionate number of homeless and frequently have unique needs not met by traditional homeless organizations. Not to mention that bigotry against LGBT people may be prevalent in those other organizations (often run by religious groups) which further marginalizes the LGBT homeless.

Is something like this necessary? Yes, absolutely.

Well then, that clears it up doesn't it? Thank you for explaining.

Oh sorry, I didn't see your response. You didn't use quotes and I overlooked it.
