This is a wonderful step towards acceptance for LGBT+ individuals and for helping to clean up what is currently a very messy diagnostic system (I'll suppose we'll get it somewhere close to reasonable by the DSM 10 and ICD 20...maybe...).

I also agree with the WHO's implication that LGBT+ individuals with depression or anxiety need treatment of their being depressed or anxious and not of their being LGBT+ (I can personally testify that, even in LGBT+ individuals in homophobic situations, depression and anxiety run *much* deeper than just being LGBT+).

Thank you for sharing this.

I hate to disagree but I do have a touch of hayfever right now I believe, fortunately it does not seem to be serious.

That would be great. Simply being LGBT+ makes you immune to all disease, illness and disorders. If only. If only being human did that.
I guess WHO are still needed.

If this understanding is widely held, why is 'reparative therapy' allowed? Could it not be seen as a kind of abuse of someone in a vulnerable position (ie, a depressed person)? It ought to be made illegal.

It's still a great shame that it took the WHO until the early 1990's to determine that homosexuality is not a mental illness. They took far too long.

I think it's sad that the world needs to be reminded of that.. But every step that takes the ignorance away, is a good step.

And the people I know ask me why I usually look so worried... The ironic thing is, sometimes certain people ask that a few seconds after they make a gay joke or some other dumb thing. Yeah, I don't think I'm going to tell you.

But I am grateful to WHO for the reminder. It's good to know that someone's on our side.
