This is an old news but only now, I found an English internet source to post here.. After the quote, I will update state of things around here

-Today the situation isn't exactly what is describe here, the socialist party (the rulling party and the majority one) has stated that although they agree with the proposition, they won't aprove it and consider it until their next term (elections are in February) so they imposed voting discipline on their parliment members to reject the proposition.

This is done to weaken the strength of the Left Bloc, a rising force that may pose a threat to the socialist majority, this is also done to make happy both people that oppose it, people that agree with it and themselves.

People that oppose it, will vote on them because they dismissed it for now, people that are for it, will vote on them because it's a know fact that the PS supports the LGBT community and they are happy because they get the votes.

-The democratic party, (is the contrary to the US democrats, here the PSD is more conservative) the major oposition force, has the good sense to free the votes of their parliment members, but without a big surprise, some of them will vote against it.

If this passes the assembly, wich is very unlikely (I made an estimate, and 3 or 4 members of PS would have to break the voting discipline) there is still the barrier of the president that can reject the proposition and send it back to be re-voted in the assembly.

Sorry for the long text. I hope this gets trough and I intend to be present in the assembly and watch the voting on the 10th of October

Well it failed, with votes against from 4 parties.

Let's hope for it to be discussed again in 2009
