Judge Strikes Down Wyoming Gay Marriage Ban - NBC News

One day after hearing arguments in the case, Federal Judge Scott Skavdahl struck down Wyoming's statutory ban on same-sex marriage. Gov. Matt Mead (R) last night in a debate said there's no point in appealing the impending ruling if it legalized gay marriage, as he was certain it'd fail on appeal.

This means that gay couples can begin marrying as soon as state officials announce they're not going to appeal the ruling.

It's stayed until October 23rd, but I doubt they will get anywhere with it.

Man, I would've figured Idaho and Wyoming to be in the last five or so, sheesh.

Wonder if we'll get all 50 before the Supreme Court even takes it up, now?

So now we have '33' including DC, but more importantly, we have an even greater majority of the population, giving many of the remaining states (MT, ND, SD, KS and Nebraska probably have as many people combined as a small state like Maryland.)

I wonder what the legal marriage number % is by population? Texas and Florida would be the two major states that hold back the most people, though I'll bet we must have at least 75% by population.

I just dont understand the reason to call it "gay" marrige because is just a marriage between two men or two women. I mean i get that they r gay but its just rude, anyone agree with me?

It is official, Gov Mead is not going to appeal, and marriage licenses will be issued starting at 10 AM Tuesday 21 October 2014.

  14. I'm surprised that some of the most right wing states are legalizing gay marriage. Who knows, nationwide might come in 2015 or 2016.

I think once we hit 3/4 of states with marriage equality we should try to get a constitutional amendment legalizing marriage nationwide and in US territories.

Are there cases pending in Montana? What's holding it back? I think it's in the same circuits as the recent spate of western states. Hope is passes soon there.

What's your governor and attorney general like?

There is a lawsuit filed. The governor is and has been (over multiple governorships) a Democrat.

A quick google search seems to suggest that the Attorney General is the primary issue at the moment: MISSOULIAN EDITORIAL: Time for Montana to end ban on same-sex marriage

(Hint to the unwise: never view the comments).
    I don't dare, personally.

I don't pay close enough attention to know right off the top of my head, though. I'd always assume religious zealots, but such persons obviously also exist in large number in Idaho and Wyoming as well.

So, the problem in Montana is that the Governor and Attorney General are both elected positions. Tim Fox is the attorney general, and he's a Republican. Montana is in the Ninth Circult.

Ah, so I see Fox is the problem. Looks like it will happen pretty soon, despite all the Republican piss and vinegar over the issue.

It's real pretty out there. I spent a summer outside of Bozeman when I was 14. Stayed in a tent camper next to the Gallatin River. Was one of the best summers ever. My dad was on sabbatical leave, at the college out there. Spent almost the whole summer outside, did a ton of inner-tubing. Very nice river.
