Link to the full story here.

I am a horrible person, but I hope all of the Russian Hospitals are bombed into ruins. Then I hope someone from West Africa who is gay and infected with Ebola makes his way to Russia and spits in every Russian Lawmakers food.

They're pathetic and extremely ignorant, especially with such baseless statements. Apple won't be losing sleep, they're still a massive empire iirc.

Oh no, not St. Petersburg! Wherever will Tim Cook go now?....

Although, laughs aside, I would like to say I don't give a (*&)(* about Tim Cook. Any positive thoughts I can summon go out to queer folk stuck in Russia and other homophobic areas of the world.

The world would be a better place if Russia didn't exist.

To be honest, it doesn't seem much worse than what a far-right politician in America would say. :/

Like many nations, including my own: great culture, great people, nasty government.

We ought not to condemn a People for the actions of their sociopathic government.

Though I may be happier than you regarding Mr. Cook coming out, I must agree with you on your latter sentiments. When I read such ridiculous statements by politicians, in Russia, Uganda and elsewhere, I shudder to think what the populace of those countries, both gay and straight, those with brains and apparently not-so-common sense, must live through every day.

Such reminders as these should enjoin those of us blessed with more freedom to appreciate what we have, and to do what we can to bring those freedoms to others.

High-profile people like Mr. Cook coming out, even if it's in a country like the US with all our freedoms yet struggling towards full acceptance of everyone as valid human beings, can stand as a 'lightning rod' for those idiot politicians that dare to prove Abraham Lincoln's oft-quoted maxim: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Except, of course, the majority of Russians support the anti-gay laws and the abuse of gay people, and the people themselves are a direct reflection of their culture. The government is in turn using gay people as a political tactic in order to stay in power, by playing to the bigotry of the public. All three things feed each other and are interconnected, with the root cause being the culture.

Sorry, Russian people and their culture do not get off that easily. It is not just the government that is the problem.

This. A thousand times this. We have fought hard for our freedom here at home, people have given up their reputations, careers, families, and more--sometimes including their own lives--so we could enjoy what we have today. We are still not where we should be, but we are better off than others, and with each step forward we need to use our new found privilege and power to help our brothers and sisters in other countries who still can only dream of what so many of us are already taking for granted.

It is really sad that Russia are so behind the times still and their government openly admit to being a homophobic country by doing exactly this kind of thing.. I used to think Russia sounded like an exotic and romantic type of place to go, now I know I will never step foot in their country, even if I was straight, I never would.

Nah, the country and the culture are still something worth existing. It is all the bigot and idiots and extremist that happens to rule over there that should not exist. I really feel sad about how horrible it is for LGBT people to live there.

I feel so bad for people under that horrible oppression. I can't believe people really think that Tim Cook being out is propaganda which will recruit children to think they're gay.

All they are doing is keeping people in the closet. That's all they can do since we know that sexual orientation isn't something any of us learned. Maybe they even realize that keeping people in the closet promotes misery and that's their goal. Their blatant ignorance of science and reality is disgusting.

    Enough Putin-blaming, will you?

Putin might be at the head of Russia, but he is far from the only people in charge of it. It is a deputy of Saint-Petersburg, Vitaly Milonov (depicted on my avatar) that proposed this cursed law, and Putin merely accepted it. Same with everything else. Your mass media may portray Russia as a dictatorship, while in reality it is more similar to a devolved oligarchic democracy.

On the topic itself: that is why I hate Milonov.
