I'm sure someone will probably beat me to this but:

    Oregon, Washington, D.C. legalize marijuana - CNN.com

So thats four (and a half with DC!) states with legalized marijuana now right? I really think this will sweep the nation like a domino effect over the next few years. Would not surprise me if by the end of next year there are 10-15 states with it legalized - its like with gay marriage, one state wants it and then so do they all!

Yet, Florida doesn't pass medicinal marijuana.

Oh well, Alaska did always have the highest mountains in North America...

To be honest I'm surprised its ever been an issue in Alaska. Surely its so remote in most places that its easy to light up without fear of being caught? Hell, I'm sure people could probably home grow without ever the slightest chance of being rumbled.

I'd imagine its never been like in densely populated states where you have thermal-detecting helicopters going round and police driving to arrest suspected pot owners - why would they drive miles upon miles in those conditions for such a minor offence?

I do like the irony though of weed being legal in the USA's capital but not in the majority of the states. One rule for the politicians, one for the people! ;p

The only good thing about the elections yesterday...

. Even in a town of 100 people, there are still police. Yes there are always occasional residencies in sparse rural states that have no one else around them for miles, but they are literally few and far between.

True, but they are probably less equipped and more stretched than police in larger urban areas. Plus you have more land around - its easier to get away from the populated areas to smoke, no?

This is extremely important. I think one of our members was actually incarcerated for possession in Oregon. I really hope she's okay, and I also hope if she is incarcated that this measure will be able to get her out now. :tears:

I personally dislike drugs but it shouldn't really be illegal. About as bad as regular smoking. We'll see how it goes.

If smoked it is equivalent yes (as you are consuming both with burned tobacco), however if consumed in the form of food/beverages or vaporized it is a lot safer than smoking.

Well, I predict it's gonna flow over the borders and into Maryland and Virginia like Niagara Falls. Prices have been falling nationally, and I think they'll continue to do so.

One effect this will have is less demand to import weed from Mexico, and thus, the drug cartels. All in all, I'm happy these laws passed.

Haven't smoked in a good while, but always saw a lot less harm in it than people who took to the bottle.

I have no intention of ever touching marijuana but the reasons for prohibition pale in comparison to the reasons for legalization, especially given the fact that both alcohol and tobacco/nicotine are legal.

Smoking should be like drinking in reasonable amounts. But just like drunk driving... no way in hell do I want someone high driving either.

But yea... straight up legalize it.

I had a few celebratory hits off a bong. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: But it's a step in the right direction. I mean, think about all the fucking revenue states are gonna pull in from sin tax alone.
