U.S. Supreme Court says same-sex marriages can go ahead in Kansas – LGBTQ Nation

Judge strikes down South Carolina same-sex marriage ban – LGBTQ Nation

Today the Supreme Court dismissed Teapublican Governor Sam Brownback's appeal to the Supreme Court to have Kansas' constitutional ban on same-sex marriage reinstated, and a federal judge in Charleston struck down South Carolina's ban on same-sex marriage.

Brownback has previously stated that he does not care what the courts say, and that he will order the state's agencies to ignore the courts and refuse to marry gay couples. He said in a statement today that he was "Meeting with the Attorney General to discuss how to further defend Kansas law."

While South Carolina's Republican Attorney General has appealed the ruling, one professor of Constitutional law at the University of South Carolina has stated that his chances of having the ban upheld in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals is "Absolutely zero."
