Well that is a way better story compared to the one in Ferguson.

Gah, thanks for the warning. I wouldn't have wanted to accidently go to the daily mail website.

I know what you and the Mail are trying to get at, Ruprect, but it doesn't exactly un-shoot anyone to give others a helping hand.

Because the races of both parties was so relevant that it had to be included in countless headliners...
I was wondering if I was the only one who was getting those vibes.

Make no mistake, I am not suggesting that the actions of this officer were undoubtedly calculated. I am saying that the response towards and reception of this story undoubtedly was.

But people were turning Ferguson into a race issue, weren't they? Absolutely unlike this unbiased, high-quality reporting from a newspaper well-known for its progressive take on society.

While that's nice, it doesn't invalidate that Americans have a problem with their law enforcement, and quite apparently, their juries.

Which goes back to what I have been saying repeatedly for over ten years. Americans are a problem.

Yes, just to clarify, I am not saying the actions of the officer in question were calculated. However, this story is obviously intended to be propaganda.

I am sure (or hope) that this cop in question is just a good guy, doing what good cops should do--help people in need. Individuals are then seizing upon his good deed to create propaganda, as if because hundreds of good and upstanding cops exist, it somehow negates the other hundreds of bad ones.

There is nothing magical about a police uniform that erases a cultural history of racism. People always forget that implicit racism exists throughout our society, they assume that only explicit racism exists. They also assume that implicit racism only influences white people, when in reality it influences everyone--white and black alike.

That's pretty much the vibe I got when the article mentions that it was the police department itself that posted the original picture.

Guys, please, I don't even have to read the article to know that he is racist. Whether he did this out of the genuine goodness of his heart or not, it's irrelevant. The fact remains that he is white, and a police officer. That is enough proof that he is racist for me!
