If that's how they want to practice religion, that's their right. I'm not a Christian but, I think a Christian themed amusement park is a great idea.

The problem wasn't them building the ark, (they already have a museum anyway) the problem was they wanted a tax incentive designed for regular businesses that have to follow certain rules to get it. (what some called a subsidy) It's one thing if they're using their own money, it's something else if they're using mine, or if they're getting a tax break that I'm not entitled to unless I obey certain rules.

The term 'amusement park' now has a whole different meaning for me.

I'm glad they lost their tax exempt status. If I wanted to build a Pagan museum, I'm sure they'd do the same.

Plus, the whole ark idea is, in my opinion, stupid. As if you could possibly gather all the species on an ark...gimmie a break. Enough is enough. I hate when Christians act so put upon. They're not.

That's not a bad idea, actually. A museum which shows the history of the Western spiritual traditions other than Christianity. We could include the Druids, Norse mythology, the Alchemists...

If people want to support it, they can give it themselves. =)

    I think it's very good news! :icon_bigg

As a 100% secularist, I'm glad to hear this news, especially as Mr. Ham was deciding to be bigoted in his business practices at his "Ark Park".

Taxes going towards genuine religious history and varying approaches to theology with a focus on increasing education? Fine.

Ostentatious quasi-religious amusement subsidised by the government? Not quite so acceptable.

I don't want my tax dollars being spend to promote religion of any type. They should ask for donations from religion groups.

glad they lost the tax break. If they were a privately owned closely held corporation (which is what the Hobby Lobby decision established as the test for if a corporation has a sincere religious belief) then legally it would have been fine, although I disagree vehemently witht he hobby lobby decision and its precedents.

Good, but now let's get rid of tax breaks for ALL religious organizations, churches etc.

This is Ken Ham, and it's connected with his creation museum. As far as I know, Kent Hovind is still in jail for income tax evasion (there's some Christian values for ya! So much for "give to Caesar what is Caesar's").

And, speaking as a Christian who is sick and tired of hearing about their totally unscientific BS, I literally thank God that they lost their tax break. I'll also note that they've had a hard time raising money by soliciting donations. The anti-evolution culture war isn't selling as quickly in Christian circles today as it did in the past. That, I believe, is a wonderful thing. Now, if only the anti-gay culture war will go the same way...

I would have laughed if it was Hovind because of the tax evasion (dumbass is getting out this summer I think).

nah, Hovind got 10 years, he has another 2 on his tax fraud charges.

In addition to that, some what unsurprisingly, he was charged with two counts of mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud. The trial for that actually starts today.
