Hey everyone! It looks like it may soon be possible for same sex couples to be parents with their own DNA! It looks like they didn't create whole sperm or egg cells and fertilize them from what I read, but they have everything they need to do that now, and they have done it with human cells already.

Wow, it only took a few years! I only posted this about pluripotent stem cells two years ago in a thread I started, and it's already really got further down the line!

    So exciting.

    Yes !(!)

This brings a flash back of me telling a male ex that one day lesbians wouldn't need men for sperm and him getting upset and saying that will never happen .
I wonder what he will think when this because public .

I knew they were able to create sperm before from stem cells, but now egg cells too? That is amazing! Now the possibilities extend!

    OMG! Yesss!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eusa_danc

I'll meet you one day my precious little darling! I really want to have a child. I think I've had a dream about my future daughter. She looks so much like me except has green eyes and slightly different eye shape. I can't wait to meet her! I believe it was a legit dream. Call me crazy if you like.

I think we should be able to put our differences aside FOR SCIENCE!!! Cookies for people who get the reference. But this is great. Shame I don't think reproductive cloning is legal in the UK.

    Nah, I feel the same.

I can appreciate that a lot of people do want this, but its all a bit Brave New World for me. I think at the moment its a really unnecessary thing considering the options available (surrogacy, adoption, IVF) - this goes more in the direction of "designer genetics" or playing god and its a bit uncomfortable. To me it also acts to add to the idea that having children with matching genetics to the parents somehow allows for a better bond which is rather insulting to adoptive children.

I would only really be supportive if we reached a "Children of Men" or "Handmaidens Tale" scenario where there was widespread infertility.

This is amazing news! :icon_bigg Kabuki and I have been talking about this, and we said: "Well, it's not very likely to happen anytime soon". This news is very surprising with me! I'm sure a lot of people will see their wish come true. That makes me happy too. :icon_bigg

I've been researching this for a while! Hoping it is even further evolved when I start my own family. Something about having biological children is phenomenal to me.
