That's what I was thinking. Still though. I don't like the message it is sending, either way.

He can't say he choose to not be gay that's not right in all levels. He can choose to act straight and conseal his feelings. But that doesn't mean his marriage will fail. As long as he control his actions they will pass as a hetero couple.

I mean, isn't he denying how Jesus made him?

Although that said, I do support his decision; the Word says that anything we do not do by faith is sin, so if he feels it would be sinful for him to be with a man I support him.

He is likely bi, and I could see him going the distance with his lady friend so kudos.

What I dislike is why such a thing needs to be public. These stories are everywhere, some more incredible and some less.
I think a lot of this is publicised for drama or to stir dissent among the divide.

This is a really typical Christian mindset. It's the idea that everyone is called to sin, that we have earthly desires and our flesh calls us to act on those desires, but that Christians have to fight against those desires and choose the Holy Spirit instead of the flesh. I've heard this message so many times I can probably do a whole sermon off the cuff.

In some cases, this one in particular, it's not healthy imo. :/

This is what is so pernicious about the religious impulse. It is indeed a value to "overcome oneself" in many spheres of life, whether it be overcoming the 7 deadly sins or other less than perfect parts of ourselves in order to become better people, however, the prohibition against homosexuality; an erroneous interpretation of scriptures that goes back centuries, plus the Christian obsession with sexual sins makes this "overcoming" a fundamental error.

It twists the desire to be "good" against what is a fundamental and essentially unchanging part of ourselves. The road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions.

He can't choose to not be gay, he can choose to not act as gay and he can choose to pretend to be straight.

That's beside the point. The article doesn't state that he is bi. The message that this sends is that you can have attraction toward men and ignore it by being with a woman.

My guess, he is either bi, or he is denying his gay feelings. Either way, I bet that they are still there..

Honestly, what he does is his business. While I do think he's got a few screws loose, his "wife" is missing all her screws!

"Oh, I met this wonderful man. He says he likes guys, but won't act on it. I feel so good!" Like... What in the world is going through her mind?

"So for me, it's not just that the religion was important to me, but communion with a God who loves me, who accepts me right where I am."

Unless of course, you love a man. Then you'll burn in hell. Naturally.

I bet he still eats bacon though. Halibut too. Oh and that sweater he's wearing? Mixed thread. People like this are disgraces to humanity. This is leading impressionable religious folks to think even more now that it's a choice.

You're mixing up Judaism, Christians don't adhere to those laws.

Hey, don't forget that it also says that anyone who works on a Saturday (the Sabbath) must be stoned. That pretty much sentences most of us here to death, myself included. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Also in one of those O.T. books it says, "you must not have sex with a male animal" (I'm not kidding, it actually says this).Ok... so, female sheep, goats etc are fine, but if you want to sleep with a human male, Yah is gonna send you off to get barbecued, apparently.

read: pastor chooses not to ACT ON his sexuality.

I hate this misconception that we can choose our sexuality/gender identity -__-

Again, that's not Christianity, so it doesn't apply.
Christianity had it's roots in Judaism, but we do not follow the 613 Levitical Laws.

The Old Testament is called the OT for a reason; it is no longer the covenant for us.
The New Testament is what is followed.

Regardless, for anyone who delights in mocking but then feels mocked; how hypocritical are you?
Can we like, not hate or gossip and just accept our faults for what they are and move on.
