    Wow.

I have no problem with organized religion, or (at least in theory) with Christianity... but I have a big problem with stupid people.

So, if they get hit by a tornado, does that mean FEMA is off the hook for any kind of relief efforts?

If a city official is caught stealing funds, or even just engaging in mismanagement, can God be held responsible?

If God owns the town, does that mean that He/She/It is responsible for paying for all upkeep and the state no longer needs to?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

Well, it is interesting that His (definitely male) control is limited to that city.

    This is just useless.

So which group gets to decide what God is saying or wants the town to do? Southern Baptists? Catholics? Jewish people? Moderate Muslims? ISIS?

Lord help me, I'm probably moving there in the springtime (AL not that particular town)

This made my day. As an avid hater of organised religion, I would love to show these people this. It would make me chuckle

I had this coming. I have had an ill heart for the entire Muslim population after the Paris shootings.
...and now, by the mear acceptance of my faith.....I'm forever linked to THIS lunacy. :help:

Yes in church, when we give our offerings to the plate, the preacher often comments how all things belong to God, but that is METAPHORICAL to help us remember our own purpose and what is important.

All I can say is I'm sorry. I am so so so so so sorry.

Does this mean that all the Christian Nazis in my area will move out of Georgia to go "be with God" in Alabama? It doesn't? Dammit...

Old men using people's faith as a means of leverage in an attempt to gain influence and spread their own personal ideals... Damn it history! Stop repeating yourself!

I convince my Catholic priest to say "God own the Catholic Church organization" or something along the line, so this is nothing new. Maybe The almighty wanted some land and property.
A political move as outrageous as this brings mirth to my face.

Next thing, they'll be trying to do is make the Ten Commandments the law. Unfortunately coveting thy neighbor's wife will be hard to enforce

I was thinking this, because some faiths are like pagans, who believe in many Gods, so this is a major insult to those. Also, I feel sad for atheists in this town, even though I'm a chrisitian. Since when is loving your neighbor forcing your religion on them?

This is so hilarious and unconstitutional.

I would like to see three lawsuits filed against Winfield: one lawsuit filed by Satan, another lawsuit filed by Zeus, and a final lawsuit filed by Atheists.

All three would argue different points.

Lawyer for Satan: "The Dark Prince files a motion declaring that the Town Council and Mayor are in violation of His Dark Majesty the Lord Satan's Civil Rights. He lays claim to more than half of the souls in this town, and feels that he was unjustly cut from this land deal."

Lawyer for Zeus: "As the Lord of Olympus and King of the Gods, Zeus finds objection to this land deal made by the Town Council and the Mayor. He has a direct divine interest in Winfield, and feels that he was cut out of this land deal due to discrimination. As a Greek God he feels that there was some racial prejudice involved, and wishes this land deal nullified so that he can properly stake his claim."

Lawyer for Atheists: "We do not usually find objection to land deals. We simply believe that a land deal of this size requires that Yahweh, Satan, or Zeus to first prove their citizenship, prove that they have agreement from all property owners in the town, and then appear in person to sign the deal. We feel that a land deal of this size should not be conducted through proxies, but instead requires them to be physically present to sign the agreement."

Basically, just troll the hell out of this town. Mock them. Create a hilarious media strategy with the sole purpose of humiliating this town and its leadership into backtracking, and looking like fools. This is the best way to discourage other towns from doing the same. The risk in going after them with a traditional legal strategy is that they are turned into martyrs for the Christian cause. Humiliate them in the eyes of the public and their people, and few others will want to follow in their footsteps.

Does this mean God has been reduced to being under the man-made laws of the United States?

I wonder if they realised when they made this declaration that it would make God accountable to human law, rather than elevating their town's status, were it to go unchallenged.
