    When they started this.. you knew that it was going to go bad. This was another case of social media campaigns at their best..

    I have to say, though... that sometimes Gawker Media are assholes. What they did was really fucked up.

    Coca Cola's attempts to take negative things and turn them positive is an excellent example of corporate america trying to make the world a better place. Gawker has a long history of doing anything to get more eyeballs, which is pretty typical of new media and the dotcom mentality. It's a sad testament.

    A social media campaign isn't going to make the world a better place... there's far more things Coca Cola could actually do to make it better. This was just playing the branding game in an oversaturated environment (and getting more eyeballs as well) - and it backfired.
