The idea is that instead of using antibodies that target only one receptor of the HIV virus, one could design new antibodies that target the two most common HIV receptors. This is what a team of researchers has done and the initial in-vivo results are exceptionally successful. To test the new approach the investigators administered the new antibodies to a number of rhesus macaques (monkeys) and then administered increasing doses of the HIV virus. None of the animals protected with the new antibodies became infected, while all of the animals in the control group became infected by the HIV virus. Yay!

There is a very long road ahead until human trials or a possible vaccine, but the initial in-vivo results are very promising.
