West Virginia Considering Bill To Block Local Governments From Extending LGBT Protections

Here is the bill text, if anyone is interested in how horrible bills are written.

It is no different from SB202 in Arkansas, saying you can't extend discrimination protection in local governments, citing business reasons.

Sigh. At least this one is not passed yet.

Well, I guess now we gotta fight toward making the state law prevent discrimination then. If the state law prohibit discrimination, then local government can protect people from discrimination too.

It is a longer and harder battle though.

Yes, but they think they found a way around it. First, they are not naming any group specifically, so no one is directly targeted. It is generalized to include literally every group that does not have protection at the state or federal level. Second, they are asserting that the reason for the legislation is 'uniformity in state regulations on behalf of businesses'.

They are hoping these two things allow them to sidestep the issues raised by Romer v. Evans. Of course, everyone knows it is in direct violation of Romer, because we all know the intent behind it even if the legislation itself tries to tell a different story. This makes it untested waters, and it will have to be challenged in the courts. With luck the courts will strike them down as well.

These things are popping up all over the country. It's like I said not to long ago, even once we have marriage rights, they will still look for a way to fuck with us. It will never be over until people like these are driven from political power in this country.

That has got to be one of the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. I mean isn't gay marriage legal there? Bc if it is then its probably gonna be close to impossible for that useless dumbass bill to pass.
