Doesn't this seem to go against the Catholic Church's position that it's homosexual actions, not the orientation, that is sinful? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...riests-to-screen-out-homosexuals-1001059.html *sigh* and :tears:
Good luck with that-they'd have to fire the whole clergy to get rid of the homosexuals. The Pope wears Prada shoes too *giggle*, so those who live in glass houses...
Yeah - maybe with some of us you can whisk it off the top, like some really gay cream on top of a milkshake, so all you have left is wonderful straightness (which you're not allowed to drink anyway because you're supposed to be celibate). OK, not sure where that image came from.... I mean, it's like "you have to repress yourself because we're going to make sure that you're celibate, but the desires you have underneath have to be towards women, because otherwise there is something so fundamentally wrong with you that God doesn't want you to be His priest". I mean, it does seem to go against all they say about it being the action, surely? Also, I wonder what other latent "tendencies" they screen for???! And how exactly do you screen for homosexual tendencies? (Maybe it's a ploy by some really closeted priests who get to work in the screening centre to get to look at porn all day. OK, sorry, that was disrespectful to Catholics...sorry...). Also, like, don't they realise that the Catholic Church has recruited from the gay population for centuries?? And don't they already have a recruitment problem????
They'll probably assess the levels of homosexuality. Those that are beyond help (the deep-seated) are shunned. Those with hope (the passing-for-straight) will probably be put through some bootcamp. And as for the tendencies... that's impossible because that goes on stereotypes and even if someone fits a stereotype of one group (for lack of a better word), doesn't mean they are a member of that group. For instance: I weat black-clothes... Gothic people wear black clothes... I'm gothic The Church's logic is whack
I like the idea of bootcamp for those with less deep-seated homosexual tendencies. Let's coax the heterosexual feelings out of you, turn you on, then make you swear a vow of celibacy...
I always have a feeling when this distinction comes up with people I talk to (although not usually more than once!) that this is some people's way of introducing an element of "choice" into the debate. As in, even if some people were to concede that one cannot help being homosexual, one can help acting on it. Or at least, when I've had discussions with homophobic people and I've reiterated that it's not a choice, they always then bring up that it's a choice to act on it...
Practice homosexuality? Tendency? What, like it's some kind of hobby? What idiots. Picking at your nose is a tendency. Sports techniques are things you practice. Homosexuality is simply another factor of a person's being.
Oh jeez And after all that training to be gay! It's so hard to keep up on your homosexualy tendencies when you don't practice! I wonder if these people ever look back on what they say and think 'Holy cow... I'm a moron'
I suppose they might just want to weed out any priests who might support homosexuality, even if they don't practice it themselves. That's the only reason I can understand why this should even be an issue. They should focus their attention on making sure that the priests stay celebate in general, not who they are trying to stay celebate from. This policy can only cause further problems for the church.
