    Five-year-old girl attempted suicide in fear of going back to Nauru, father says - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

    An Iranian child has tried to kill herself in Darwin to avoid being returned to offshore detention in Nauru, a tropical island with an enclosed Australian refugee centre. The centre has come under fire with allegations of sexual assault, not providing sufficient medical care and abuse/failure to prevent abuse by guards and between detainees.

    Now, a young girl has tried to kill herself due to the horrible memories she had of detention in Nauru, having been transferred to Darwin for her father's medical treatment. Mental health professionals and doctors pointed out that she was not fit to be returned to Nauru.
