Seems like a good idea...but why would you miss school for this? Thats only hurting yourself.

  3. I wish I could do that- no way in hell Mum will let me, though.

Hmmm, education is important. I'm all for peeps doing protests or whatever, but you're only damaging yourself if you participate and miss out on school.

That may sound goody two shoes or whatever, but I don't care. Nothing is more important in your teen years than the education you get, as that will set you up for the rest of your life.

I disagree. I'm an example of that.
    Plenty of time.

A lot of people are voicing that they don't think this is a good idea, but nonetheless there is a call to action, so we shall see.

December 10th is actually the last day of my school year. And they usually get annoyed if we miss out on it without a "valid reason"... >_>

Yeah.... December isn't a good time for me... Retail... if I even mention being off for a day they MIGHT kill me... if they think I'm serious that is.

It doesn't really look like this day will catch on. Nice idea, no good in practice.

Good in theory, bad in practice. I don't think it's going to affect many people in something like, say, Day of Silence does. Everyone notices DoS because it has such a huge impact on the people who do it (as well as those around him/her). It gets it's point across about the silence of the closet.

This, well, this is just stupid.

    Jack:"Hi, manager, I can't come in today."
    Manager:"Why not? Are you sick?"
Jack: "Well, some say so, because some say being queer is a disease and I figure if I've got a disease I have an excuse to not come to work."
Manager:"Jack, get your ass in here. And don't expect to come back after today, either."

Wow. It's only 1 day! Not like someone is suggesting taking a week off.
But,do what you gotta do. If you feel like you can't do this(and I respect those who can't)
at least you'll be there in spirit.

If I'm still at Livermore, its a no. If I'm at Vineyard, I'll already be at home. Either way, its a no for the not being there part, but I might b able to help if I'm at Vineyard.

It is an interesting idea, that's for sure.

Um, yeah, it can't happen for me since I have final exams the entire week, including December 10th.

For me, school will actually be over by then. So, I'll be having the day off anyway. That doesn't really count, does it?

my dad wouldn't let me, and well, just like the immigration rallies on may 1, i refuse to stay home, because I want to be in school, and I could fight prop 8 in my own way.
If I could do it when my education won't be interrupted, I'd do it.

I agree with other people. This may look good on paper, but it isn't good in practice. I'm with some other people on here, I'm not out at work and in doing so, I will be pulled out of the closet. I work in a field that homosexuality is frowned upon because I work with children. Also, the purpose of the "Day Without a Gay" is to hit the economy. If we are working on LGBT issues locally, then we are going to be using gas to get there, we are going to be using electricity and possibly eating out if we are working around town. We will be helping the economy, unless we turn off all our lights, turn off our heaters and air conditioners and don't use an ounce of energy, water or anything else. Besides, one day isn't going to hurt the economy at all. Bosses won't accept you calling in as "gay," as its only a small few that believe in homosexuality as a disease... most see it as a choice anymore, so more than likely your boss isn't going to see it as an illness.
