That's nice. Good to see conditions starting to improve in Japan. And I have to say that the mayor was quite well spoken on the issue.

    Yay. Good news.

I still have no idea how the ward system works in Tokyo... Who cares?!

Well, they're on the right track! Now if only they can get the other 22 special wards to follow suit :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

 Yay! Honestly though I really don't think it will take long now for Japan to completely legalize gay marriage. It was only made illegal in the 70's I believe. And despite that businesses, including Disneyland and McDonald's, as well as temples and shrines have been holding gay weddings for years.

There's already a growing number of companies that have same-sex partnership clauses in their employee benefits packages, hopefully this helps tip the scale even farther over!

I heard this a while ago when they propose this, though Japan is still a very culturally conservative country, and old people not welcome this. Still, it is progress that I can appreciate.

The thing is, homosexuality isn't really hated in Japan. Homosexuality has been part of Japan's history, and it wasn't until they started opening up to the west that it started becoming an issue. Generally, sexuality is kept private in Japan, because they have a "keep it in the bedroom" kind of attitude. Statistically speaking, their acceptance rate is about the same as the United States's.
