    Full story here.

An irrelevant pizza shop cries crocodile tears because they get some anonymous internet hate mail for their bigotry, and they earn nearly one million dollars in donations in hate money from Christian bigots. A young man is called an anti-gay slur, and then has his entire team chased by a horde of bigots who were threatening to kill them. I wonder how many Christians will be donating to them, people who were actually endangered because of the bigoted beliefs that people like them spread?

Oh, wait. My apologies. I forgot they were the real victims, and that we should be happy to allow them to continue to indoctrinate children with their hate--after all, what could go wrong? It's not like they are going to turn into a mob and try and lynch one of us... right?

I thought 'how could this happen', then I saw Kentucky and it explained everything.

Stories like these remind me why I stay somewhat hidden the the sports environments that I work in for my job. Some teams are really cool with me, but others treat me like I am some sort of villain. It's scary to think about what would happen if they found out that I am transgender.

Reading that makes me so angry. I don't understand how some people can be so backwards.

It is sad. Did they press charges against the other team? Did the other team face any sort of punishment, at all?

Makes me wanna round up some friends, head on up to those hills, and kick some ass. Which is not at all like me, but they need to taught some kind of lesson.

Hmmm... Where I went to school, I could picture many of our athletes throwing it back at the opposition with the "Yeah, baby, can I have your number?". Wouldn't have been taken as our guy being gay, just throwing the accusation right back...

That's likely how it was taken by his teammates. However, as anyone who has been in a similar situation where they've been verbally attacked for being gay while in the closet knows, you instantly go into the shame spiral of, 'What did I do to give myself away?' Add said shame spiral to his response, and you easily get a young kid in full panic mode, and then--as ultimately happened--in tears. Once he started crying, other people started to wonder what was wrong, he tried to avoid talking about it, but was eventually forced to come out to them due to the situation.

Had he not started to cry and shown that he was upset, it is unlikely anyone would have thought differently. But of course, when we are in that situation our perception is very different. We criticize everything we say and do, living in terror that we've done something to reveal ourselves to others.

Good point. I kinda forgot about the postcard that was sent to the office by one of my coworkers while I was still in the closet about being bi. Had a picture of a guy in just a speedo on one side, and the message from the coworker that was on a tropical vacation said she'd try to bring the guy back for "the boys". At the time there were two openly gay guys in the office. I'm glad the person that found me hiding, rocking, and crying in the files was one of those guys.

On the upside to this, it's really, really awesome he has such a supportive coach and team!

Will charges be brought against those who used death threats?
