Despite the efforts of allies and advocates of the LGBTQ community in the state of Missouri and across the nation, it seems that Question One has passed, in turn, repealing the SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) civil rights ordinance passed by the Springfield City Council last October. This law had religious exemptions for churches, and gave LGBTQ people in Springfield many legal protections that they did not have, since Missouri has yet to pass a satewide nondiscrimination law. The yes votes (Pro-Repeal) seem to have won against the No Repeal Campaign by a margin of about 858 votes, in a municipal election where voter turnout was higher than average, but still an abysmal 23%. This is why elections matter, folks.

    I'm not really surprised.

Like I always say, politics are like driving. D to go forward and R to go back.

This is also we can't just abandon the South. Hopefully we can get meaningful change at the federal level and cram it down the Southern states' throats like we did about 150 years ago, as I recall.
