    Don't do this at home. Decorative 'samurai' swords are often made of stainless steel and often have a short tang:

    This short tang means that it can easily be separated from the hilt. Stainless steel has a image of being durable because it doesn't rust, but those qualities also make it brittle. This is not a problem with sword kitchen knives, but these swords can break into horribly many sharp pieces moving at high speed if used to actually cut things..
