Australian security services have been on high alert since the end of last year. It's horrifying to see people barely older than I am turning to this sort of political violence. The question of how to further integrate young Muslims into broader Australia and prevent radicalisation seems to be less important (stemming it at the source, that is) to many than only dealing with it when it reaches this stage. Recent protests against the so-called Islamisation of Australia (Reclaim Australia - ABC) show the malicious, misguided and certainly unproductive stigmatisation of Muslims.

It can be difficult trying to solve the underlying issues without excusing the horrifying behaviour of people such as the men recently arrested, or addressing violence without stooping to the racism of groups ostensibly opposed to Islamic terrorism alone.
