Ever since I was small and knew what money was, I wondered why there weren't any women on them.

One of the last great male dominated sects in the United States, is about to change.

A small organization is collecting signatures for the vote to change the $20.00 bill here in America, from "male" to "female".

They had some tough choices to make, but in a true democratic fashion, they made each decision they had to make, a choice by having it voted on.

They started with a long list of historical female candidates, and now have the choice narrowed to just a few. From this few, they will take the most voted for and petition the United States Mint to change the face of the $20.00 bill to that of the chosen female historical figure.

Unfortunately, my favorite female historical figure was not even on the list in the first round of voting, Miss Jane Pittman.

Here is the site, if you care to read it or even vote on it...

    Vote - Women on $20s

In future changes on other dollar bills here in the USA, I would like to see a woman of science on one of the dollar bills....

They picked a good president to replace, too. Jackson helped kill thousand of Native Americans on the trail of tears. I'm hoping Rosa Parks wins.

It was difficult for me. Although "Mankiller" on the $20 would be a riotous laugh..........
I had to finally choose one based on historical factors...Harriet Tubman.

We should pick Rosa Parks. That would show how post-racial America is.

Actually no, we need Wilma. Just because I want someone with the last name of Mankiller on the 20 federal note.

Yes, they will be worth $20.00 (depending on inflation factors, as usual)

I voted Rosa Parks, although I think it would be kind of weird to just honor her and ignore Claudette Colvin

She'd be a good choice, but I'd prefer Claudette Colvin.

Rosa Parks is very well known for her actions (and rightly so), but I think now its the time for Colvin to be given the limelight. Afterall, if it wasn't for Colvin, Rosa Parks might not have been so influential.

Well, based on the current unequal distribution of salaries, where women are still paid less than men, I'm not so sure...imagine that, a 20% discount on its "face" value...

Maybe the $20 would be worth $15.40 if they put a woman on it (That's 77% of $20, the same percent women are paid in wages compared to men).

    This.

Instead, I voted on Harriet Tubman~ she was so courageous and is the first person I think of when I think of important women in US history~~

So is this something that will actually happen or is it just some people collecting signatures?

Also, there is already a few females on US dollar coins.

Can't they just make a new bill instead of replacing the face of one of our Presidents?

    We've had a women since 1952 :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But I think it's good that this is a thought. If I was in the states I would probably go for Rosa Parks for the increased diversity.

Well, the Queen features on one side of all UK bank notes, but we currently have Elizabeth Fry on the other side all £5 notes. Jane Austen will be on the next issue of the £10 note and Florence Nightingale used to be depicted on a previous issue of the same.

There has been a campaign to feature Alan Turing on UK bank notes and I really hope it happens one day.

Give an inch you give a mile they'll want to drive, vote next

Also I only know what president is on what banknote because I hear it in hip hop, if they change it will all be out of date. At the very least 100 dollars still needs to be a benjamin

I think we should lease the spaces on the bills to comic book companies, and get rid of all the presidents on our bills.

They're so stuffy seeming, and old.

Put Wonder Woman on the $20. Batman can go on the $5. Raven can go on the $50, and for the $100, well, there is only one choice: Beastboy!

Spider-Man can go on the $1, and for the $10, I'm not sure...
