I think this is totally awesome! Not only is it great that she isn't afraid to be herself, it might also help quite a few people realize there's more to gender than the binary. It might even help some people realize they are non-binary!

i think she is annoying in all honesty. I respect her right to individuality and glad she is supportive of us but at the same time I find her annoying and intolerable.

The cynic in me thinks that she's a publicity seeker who will do anything to get attention - but if she's being honest and she is really genderqueer and 'not straight', then good for her. Still can't stand her mind.

The cynic in me also thinks that she's a publicity seeker who will do anything to get attention; additionally, I think she's going to be pushing the 'little special snowflake' syndrome with her (purposely?) vague 'not straight' pronouncement.

It's nice she supports groups for those that are 'different', but she also seems to have a hard time being very articulate.

What next? Justin Bieber coming out as trans?

I wish we could have more intelligent , substantive people coming out...I suppose this may help some young teens and what not, but, arg, I'd be more impressed if she did a new Hannah Montana show where she dated a girl. (set in college, or something)

Then again, maybe I'm just a grouch who hates vapid, pop music, and feels she plays to a certain number of stereotypes.

if she´s really genderqueer then all respect to her, however and according to me more probable is the fact that she just wanna be popular and now queer is "popular" in Hollywood, i doubt she would say it fifteen years ago...
i see her image as very disrespectful to people who are genderqueer or transexual or any other non-straight people who suffer from their circumstances and ignorance from society for a long time and who didnt "make up" their identity over the fifteen minutes meeting with their PR manager during last week...

I don't like it. She's just a publicity seeker and I can't shake the feeling that she's just going to give the LGBT community a bad name in the end.

Why didn't she come out when I was actually a fan and struggling with my sexuality?

I'm really happy for Miley. It was awesome to see that she was able to open up about this and be able to help young fans who may be struggling with sexual orientation and gender identity issues themselves.

I'll throw another vote in the "cynic" category.

I think it's very easy to be cynical when 99.9% of female pop artists just happen to be bisexual or lesbian (even if they only ever seem to date men!).

On Miley Cyrus, she does have a history of engaging in publicity stunts which probably isn't going to help with getting this taken seriously. Mind you I can see the "genderqueer" as she does express herself quite diversely (being quite a "tomboy" whilst at the exact same time highly sexualising herself using her female form) - she certainly plays with gender roles.

I'm also on the fence with this...She could just be attention seeking like all those "Party Lesbians" out there :rolle:

    Same here.

Maybe I'm not only cynical, but lealous. I wish some of the musicians I'd really loved growing up had come out...but that was way back then, and all you had were rumors, mainly.

There was David Bowie, who was probably bisexual...and Lou Reed, likewise. And maybe Mick Jagger.

And as for my punk rock legends, like Husker Du, it would be years till I found out, along with the likes of Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys.

It's nice to see musicians come out...but why do they tend to be such fluffy, boppity-poppity sorts? Maybe in time, this will change.

I think Michael Stipe of REM came out, so that's more to me than this, but again, Miley represents a very vapid, shallow pop-cultural icon to me. It's sort of like if New Kids on the Block had come out.

So call me s mean 'ol crabb-ass, but it feels like a crumbs for the masses, a flashy publicity stunt executed behind her wealth and fame, and in a time where it no longer seem to take as much to come out. Not that it's easy, but it's almost starting to seem like a fashion...

Puts a whole new meaning on "Best of Both Worlds". Maybe she was trying to tell us something, even back then?

    Did your Google break?

I wonder is she genuine or is this her latest attempt to stay relevant. Maybe it's both. I suppose we will never really know with her.
