This is an absolutely horrific story, and terrifying too.

Innocent Bangor man wrongly accused of child porn says the police need gay lingo lessons to prevent another ruined life - Belfast Live

A man in Bangor, Co. Down has been arrested for having "child porn" on his computer. In reality, not only where the images on his computer of adults, but he hadn't even searched for them or downloaded them.

These were popup adverts that had stored as traces on his computer. The man explained to the police that these were of "twinks" (gay slang for hairless or feminine looking young adult men), but the police were oblivious to this lexicon and the guy was sent to court.

Thankfully he has been cleared of all charges by a judge with some common sense, but I do worry about the lasting impact on this man (who had lost his job and contemplated suicide as a result of this ordeal). Here is hoping he can get back into work and bring his life back to normality.

Don't know about Ireland but in the UK images in your cache (such as in this case) can't be used in a court as it cannot be proven you purposefully accessed them.

I'm not aware of how this works in Northern Irish law, but it certainly seemed it was enough to at least get this man arrested.

If that was indeed contrary to the law I hope this man sues to the police massively for overstepping their jurisdiction.

Well this is odd...A little off topic, but this why I'm not into twinks...I feel like I'm watching two young boys going at it...My porn taste is two hairy guys going at it...I think they're called otters...In fact, I feel that twink porn is targeted at teenagers, but older men like to get their hands on it...

I am not gonna get far into this but this says it all. Sometimes these laws concerning pornography are too messed up because a well meaning person can view porn or download thinking it is a mature adult and than they are proven wrong convicted of a crime and forced to register as a sex offender. Or this happens and the man gets in trouble for no fault of his own. That is i never download porn or share it with anyone else cause that is how people get in trouble with shit like that.

I don't think this was an accident or a mistake by the police. Read the article. They were classifying some of the images as "5" which apparently means toddlers / infants. I don't care how clueless you are about gay culture, none of those images were of toddlers.

I think they were convinced that he was a pedophile simply because he was gay, and were hoping to use those images to try and prove it to a jury. Ireland is still a very anti-gay place, and it has always been the stereotype that gay men prey upon children.

I hope that this man can get his life back together, and I hope that he sues the fuck out of the cops for compensation. I also hope that all the cops involved lose their jobs.

What i don't get is how the police came to be involved in the first place. If the guy was on 18+ sites what promoted the police to search his house. He said at the time he was still in the closet so they wouldn't have known he was gay....

Police don't just turn up with warrants and do random searches.

He said that when the police showed up, they were responding to a "tip" given by someone. When he realized what they were there for, he actually helped them gather all of his electronics, including some things they had missed.
