They worked their butt off for four years of high school. I think the least any school could do is let them talk about anything they want as long as they don't use explicit language.

    Stupid school.

Let the kid announce himself to the world. No matter how anyone takes it that's his last friggin day in your building so who cares?

Yeah, I think I'm with the school on this one. A high school graduation just doesn't seem like the best place to come out.

I saw this article when reading todays paper this morning.
The school also did not announce that he was valedictorian at the graduation.

Am I surprised that they wouldn't let the kid say anything about being gay? . Nope, not at all surprising.

He should get the recognition he completely deserves. I mean after the Salutatorian speaks what happens, nothing. The valedictorian speech for my grade, the guy talked about praising God and how God will show you the way. And no one had problem with that it seems. This is so sad.

Well wonder what the reaction would of been if he praised God and being gay in the same sentence. Just a thought.

school admins heads would have blown up.
well, then again, wouldn't the two cancel each other out?
could cause a rip in the fabric of time or something.

    Exactly.
Complete utter chaos would arise. It will challenge their Christian beliefs and what they stand for. And they can't have that.

Ironically, by doing this, they only spread the word further and faster than ever before. 20 years ago, this would have silenced him, now with the internet and social media, they have inadvertently given him a voice a thousand times louder.

While I agree it's not really the best place to come out, it depends on his focus. If it's "all about me" or if he uses it as an example of overcoming hardships, loving others, etc.

I believe the issue is that they are ignorant, small minded, bigoted assholes.
