It just makes sense.... thanks for the link!!

Why people who are uncomfortable with gay people use religion to try and back them up when in fact it shows just how wrong they are!!

Super article! It never ceases to amaze me how culturally myopic most people are. Just because it's been done this way in my own community for the couple decades or so I've been on Earth, that must be how it's been forever... Not so, obviously. Marriage is definitely an evolving institution, you could say.

I think it's interesting that 3 of the top 10 articles at the moment are about gay issues. I thought this one http://www.newsweek.com/id/159509 was also eye-opening, as I must admit I had never really thought of the older gay community.

Marriage as it is currently understood by the Church dates to 1545, when the Roman Catholic church, faced with expanding Reformation, announced that only marriages that were blessed by an ordained Catholic minister were legal in the eyes of God. Everyone else would burn in hell. Before this, marriage was a private commitment; only the very wealthy had a blessing. Interestingly, the American evangelicals who clamour that only formal marriages in Church are legal, are also rapid to denounce the Roman Catholic church for being un-Biblical... Marriage in Jesus' day, in Biblical times, was a private commitment to fidelity between two people. In the more traditional families, a woman accepted to renounce her father's inheritance and place herself under the authority of her husband. This would not be accepted today by most evangelicals. The Christian evangelical position on marriage is un-informed, un-Biblical and contrary to most of their teachings.
    Peace, Shalom, Salaam.

Good article. Thanks for the read.

And I agree, I think that its less about supporting "traditional marriage" a modern invention- than it is about the condemnations against homosexuality in Scripture.

But I imagine that so long as many people base their faith on a literal interpretation of Scripture - people will continue to oppose the gay marriage effort. But, hey if this reaches one person we've gained something.

This article set off a huge gay-marriage debate on another forum I belong to. 97 posts since yesterday afternoon. Of those who posted, I'd say a 2/3 majority support or simply don't care either way on gay marriage. It has since turned into a Bible interpretation debate...

It was concluded that the issue at the bottom of it all is whether or not you believe that being gay is a choice or not.
