Lol, oh Zimbabwe. They're just starting using U.S. currency now? I thought they had already been doing it. Either way, good for them, because their currency is a joke. Zimbabwe has one of the fastest growing economies in Africa at least, so hopefully things will improve.

Robert Mugabe has been the leader of the country since 1980.

I have a $100 trillion bill from Zimbabwe in my currency collection, and it sits next to notes from Yugoslavia that were in the billions. That page is dedicated to hyper-inflation.

This is definitely a move in the right direction for Zimbabwe. Once Mugabe is out of the picture, life may be able to improve more.

Interesting question: with the level of education many Zimbabweans have, can they comprehend the vast amount that number is? I mean at that stage I'd have to use scientific notation just to do anything above buying a loaf of bread.

How did Zimbabwe's currency get so inflated anyways? Did the government just print paper with massive numbers on it thinking that makes in worth anything?

There was a few reasons, it began in the 90's when Mugabe took land off white people and gave it back to the blacks, these guys knew nothing about farming and food output dropped by about 50% which in turn put prices up and up. The main reason though was Mugabe started printing money to fund the war in the Congo and due to that the banking sector collapsed and inflation took off.
