Well, I suppose he would, because that way, he won't have to try to flip-flop, and hide his opposition to it.

Homophobic Scum of the Earth Takes a Stance Against Gay Marriage would be a snappier title to this lack of news. Good thing you're sharing it obivously! But it's not very surprising I think.

And this is why no LGBTQ person should vote for him.

HA! Wow, it's really funny seeing anybody running for a leader/president type role completely oppose a certain group of people.

Good formula for them to lose horribly.

Jeb Bush is dead on arrival. He is going down in the polls and at his speech his facial expressions seems like a cocky angry sob. He is as dumb and reckless as his brother and we do not need another Bush.

Ugh. I'm no republican by any means but I thought he was the "best" republican candidate for 2016 and now I just think he's as worthless as the rest on the right.

Assuming they rule in our favor... Can never been too confident. :/

Edit: Actually, there would be a lot of salt regardless of the ruling.

Even if he were the "best", there just isn't going to be a Republican who supports same-sex marriage that gains any kind of mainstream support. And that's why I'm never going to be a "Gay Republican" even if I do agree with them on some other issues. But I simply won't identify with a party that stands for denying me rights.

Even Republicans who claimed they would support civil unions and wouldn't fight a Supreme Court ruling have totally flip flopped on the issue. *cough cough* Ben Carson *cough cough*

But why? I'm assuming most republicans are anti gay because of religion and there has to be atheist republicans. I guess that's the part where "mainstream" comes in

the nature of the political rules in the USA almost guarantee that the GOP nominee for president will be significantly less friendly to gay civil rights for quite some time.

Conservative is one thing, which means they will be inherently less open to social change, but around half of their base support is quite reactionary. They can't win without those votes, and these days even that doesn't seem enough.

Can we please get better choices. I'm just thankful Mike Huckabee doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Heh. No! We can't, not without changing the rules!

As long as the political economy in the USA is setup the way it is, we will have two dominant political parties. And the nature of two political parties, divided among ideological lines, means that one party or the other will have to rely on utter asshats to win a national election.

Nationally, marriage equality is consistently close to 60%, yet the nature of our elections means that's a non starter for winning the presidency as a republican. Their base won't allow it, and they cannot win with a candidate who doesn't get support from their diehards.
