    Skinny Jeans Can Lead to Nerve and Muscle Damage, Doctors Say - ABC News

    "Doctors are warning potential fashion “victims” to beware of their skinny jeans after one woman suffered muscle and nerve damage from a too tight pair of pants.

    The unidentified 35-year-old woman was wearing “skinny jeans” when she showed up at hospital with ankle weakness and swelling in her lower legs, according to a case study published this week. The woman told doctors she had been helping a family member move, which led to hours of squatting to clean out cupboards.

    Doctors were surprised to find that squatting in the tight jeans had lead to compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition where an injury leads to swelling of the muscle or nerves that is constrained by a layer of tissue called the fascia. As the swelling continues the fascia is unable to expand and eventually the muscle and nerves can be injured as blood flow is cut off."

    I wear skinny jeans myself, though the article seems to be talking mainly about women's skinny jeans, which do often seem to be tighter than men's. That said, I'm so skinny that skinny jeans aren't that tight on me.

    But yeah...kind of alarming -_-

    I wear skinny jeans and it doesn't concern me at all. It's a price worth paying to look good. :wink:

    I'm in my mid-fifties and I look damn good in my skinny jeans...never gonna give them up!...they will have to pry them off my cold dead legs...

    Well, if people wore clothes that were the appropriate size, these things probably wouldn't happen as much as they do. ;P
    It's nothing I've given a heavy second thought about. I'm not worried.

    I wear skinny jeans, but the pair I wear the most aren't that uncomfortable. Like you, I'm so skinny that they don't feel too tight. I can still breathe and move my legs around with complete ease, even when lifting something or doing exercise (of course, I usually wear athletic shorts for both those things, simply because I tend to sweat a lot and summer is hell in Georgia).

    I have one pair that's pretty tight (I think it may be a size or two too small), but I don't wear them often, so I think I'll be OK.
