That's her right, though I believe she's misinterpreting Scripture. There is such a thing as freedom of religion/religious conscience in the USA, is there not? Can't they bring in a clerk from another county to do the gay weddings?

Personally, I give this person credit for standing up for what they believe in. I may not agree with it, but it still takes a lot to do that.

While prone to Buddhist thoughts, I can sympathize with her sufferings but she should take this as an opportunity to know that all life and history passes through this phases and that; I feel sad she can not see more than her own point of view, and not see that of others. She has boxed herself in, built her own prison, and I would hope, can someday see where her opinions cause harm in this world, and hurt other people.

No. County clerks swear an oath to uphold the law of the land. They do not get to choose which laws they will recognize.

She did the right thing by stepping down. I think she's a lunatic, but good on her for doing the right thing and stepping down as she was no longer to fulfill her sworn duties.

Think on the bright side, now there's a job opening for someone who wants to help happy couples get married.

    Hasta la vista, baby.

I would chip in for a gold watch, though . Heck, we should start a foundation giving gold (plated) watches to all clerks who resign because of religious convictions post-Obergefell.

There's no need to applaud the courage of someone who doesn't want to do her job solely for the reason of others having respect, happiness and recognition. Whatever dignity she might have felt this would give her, I find it very difficult to find myself feeling any of that.

    Good riddance.

What an utterly stupid person. Her blind conviction to her archaic and obsolete beliefs doesn't deserve so much as a sliver of respect from any of you.

Did she also check that people weren't divorced before conducting straight ceremonies? Do the county clerks also conduct divorces and would she have carried those out?

Yep, it's called laic state: you're free to believe whatever you want but your religious beliefs cannot be against a law, and now marriage is a constitutional right, you can't deny it to someone for your religion.

Anyway, I'm happy that she quit, bye, we'll not miss you.

    This is silly imo.
Standing up for your own values is only an admirable thing when said values are based on logical reasoning or the subject is something that's inherently subjective.
Bigotry based on blind faith is not something to be proud of imo.

Christians final authority is God, and the 3 things he delights in are judgment, righteousness, lovingkindness.
"who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

    So settle down please lady.
