Wow... I'm perplexed. Now they are using the oppressed minority narrative?
It is such a hypocrite stand.

40,000+ dislikes. I'm glad people are not buying this.

I gotta say that I partly agree with the message of the video. Not for the reason you think, because they are playing victim and they are not the victims. If we hear what these people have to say, they do say that they don't hate gay people. If we want to reach a mutual understanding between people, then we need to as well respect their religious beliefs. It seems these people are open to that understanding, but if we label them as bigots and homophobes because of it, we ruin any chance of them accepting us. Even if it's something we staunchly disagree with, we can't let ourselves stoop to their level, especially if we can't be tolerant of their beliefs. What I don't like about this video is that they play the "victim", which isn't usually the case, but they are right in that society has progressed to the point where people can be 'hated' for disagreeing with same-sex marriage.

Wow, it took the producers over a minute to show the people saying "I have gay friends, but...." It's pathetic. I don't see them leaping to support the 'traditional marriage' of islam and rushing to marry their teenage daughters to middle aged men.

"It's our beliefs, you have to respect them", I don't see them saying we have to respect the beliefs of Islamic State.

Call me intolerant if you want but if your belief system makes you believe that people are lesser than you and deserve less rights because of who they are, that is not a belief system that I will give respect to. There has to be mutual respect that people are equal and deserve those rights before I will respect that. If you do not believe in same sex marriage, don't get married to a person of the same sex. Don't tell others what they can and can't do.

I mean I see that they follow religion. I'll respect anyone regardless.

Oh, look at the poor oppressed religious people crying because gay people are getting married. Poor poor them, I weep for their struggle. I'm sure they have it so rough, you know, having so many politicians on their side and all.

I wouldn't want to be their friends...

I mean; what kind of friend cries about the idea that you have the ability to get married to whoever you love? Especially when they pull off the act that THEY'RE oppressed... after many years of people like you(LGBT+ community, and even some others), have been under all of this hell... just trying to have rights that everyone should be allowed to have, regardless.

The tone of the people in these video just strikes me as something really not genuine... and their words and message are cringeworthy.

At least the Catholics in Jersey aren't like that - the CoE is the worst for homophobia here, especially their Canon.

I became a born again christian a few years ago and nothing has convinced me or probably ever will convince me to rejoin the catholic church. But with that said I know very well not all priests are perverts or homophobes even and not all of their parishioners are anti gay. We may only see the bad stuff but from my eyes the church is progressing in some respects. I actually think there are way more extreme christian religions compared to the catholic church. It could be way worse from my perspective.

They'd have been better off doing their own version of this -

Would have been a damn sight less offensive too. Unless you're a Monty Python fan

Well, they are trying to communicate. What they are communicating is very misguided, but it is easier to deal with things like this when they are out in the open. Anyway, to the people in that video:

    1) The crocodile tears aren't helping your image.

    2) Most American Catholics are pro-LGBT. They are actually leading the way.

    3) You aren't considered to be a jerk because you are "weird." You are considered to be a jerk because you treat your fellow man like crap.

    4) If you don't like how we do things in this country, then you can always just move to Russia.

Society is sick. Society is a lie. Sooner gay folks (all marginalized groups) realize that and treat society as the leper it is the sooner society will heal.

The message; "Yes, if you belong to a group that stomps on the marginalized you are a social leper and neither you nor the group deserve respect."
