Oh my god... I never thought this would happen so quickly! I remember the dept. of defense giving a very vague "next year or two we'll maybe get started", but this is fantastic news. I'm so happy to see the direction we're going in.

Holy hell. Maybe bigotry is finally losing its firm grip over the United States government? First the supreme court ruling, then the gay ban down, now they're lifting the trans ban as well? Maybe they'll lift that "no atheists running for office" bullshit many states carry eventually, but I won't get my hopes up.

It's shocking. I'm really hoping the country finally realized calling itself "land of the free" and denying groups their basic rights is silly.

Is it a long process? Sounds as if they're planning to build some big hotel in united arab emirates or whatever...

Anyway - I just hope it happens without problems.

I feel like Summer 2015 will be seen in history books as the start of the dominos falling for LGBT discrimination laws.

Excellent news, I didn't think it'd start happening so quick; but excellent still!

I suspect that being visible plays a part.
Also the fact it is seen for what it is : A medical condition.

Still, it is a first step. Doesn't mean you won't face discrimination there, but at least it will be illegal.

True, through I sadly can't serve in the military due to my medical problems; I'm glad that people like me will be able to without having to hide their true selves.

I'm just saying. Being in the navy already, I've already started a little bit of a transition now that I know nobody will kick me out. And while I get treated a little funny every so often, the work environment I'm in right now is an amazingly open minded one.

Thank God. This is amazing news!

I had very seriously been considering enlisting but my main concern was this, exactly. If trans people were granted full openness and protection within the military, it would open so many doors. I'm glad they're finally on this!

Okay, I did not think that would happen anytime soon. Awesome.

Don't think I'm going to enlist but this also sets more of a precedence for me as a public servant.

Funny enough, I actually (briefly) considered enlisting in the Navy a couple years back. Glad to finally see change is finally happening.

I don't like the military, but I think it's important to see sustained attacks against gender discrimination at all times.
