Let's hope that this is the start of a steady stream of sportsmen (and women) to have the confidence to come out. I must be so hard for them and I admire their courage. :eusa_clap

There was so much in his interview that I identified with.
    Thanks Keegan.

This is brilliant, especially considering I know (pretty well) a guy who is a rugby player and has said some pretty homophobic things, and goes on about how rugby is a sport for "proper, straight men".

Brilliant news! That must have taken a lot of courage. Hopefully more sports stars will follow, especially those in more popular sports like football.

Exactly what I was thinking. There are so many footballers, I find it hard to believe that they're all straight. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I can't help but think that, on the whole, Rugby has a friendlier and more open culture than the old fashioned "macho" culture that surrounds Football at the moment. I could be wrong though, reading what the above poster said.

Whatever the case, this must have taken a lot of courage - I hope he finds that it makes a positive change in his life. I'm sure it will.

I'd be pretty scared to come out at a football club tbh there's such a LADS culture it's pretty gross

In rugby league or union people don't seem to make such a big deal of it but it's still something that Keegan Hirst has managed to come out so good on him

It might be just me but I always saw Rugby league as more laddish then union. There is a noticeable crowd difference between the sports and League seems to have more chanting which seems similar to football. But with some of the chanting and comments heard during football matches, the fear of coming out must be very scary. Especially since racism still exists in the sport.

Great news, good on him, yadda yadda yadda.

But can we talk about those neck muscles? I'm intrigued, are you just born with a neck that developed, or do you have to train it?

There's already plenty of sportswomen out, men though... not so much. Sadly, the macho sports environment is still very homophobic.
