The worst Speaker of the House in American history has announced he's quitting at the end of October. House conservatives had planned to mount a coup to oust him from the Speaker post and replace him with someone nutty enough for their standards.

House Democrats who've bailed John Boehner out of manufactured crisis after manufactured crisis over the last five years refused to save his hyde one last time. The question now is whether he'll be replaced with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who isn't a Tea Party true believer, or someone crazy enough for their standards. Either way, I say good riddance.

Boehner's tenure as Speaker was to literally do nothing. He presided over a government shutdown, two debt ceiling crises, the downgrading of the US' credit rating, and did absolutely nothing legislatively besides taking 60 votes to take health care away from 30 million Americans.

What do cold water and the Tea Party have in common? Both will make a Boehner shrivel up

Louie Gohmert or Steve King for Speaker of the House. Let's see the Republican's go full on crazy.

In fairness, it could be argued that he was beholden to a bunch of wackos that demanded he do everything possible to sabotage the US Federal government.

    The suicide caucus strikes again.

I look forward to the inevitable government shutdown and the Republicans getting away with it, barring intervention by some meddling kids.

Crap like this is why I really need to block my Tea Party lobbyist "friend" on FB. She's been celebrating this all day. But at the same time, I like to know just how crazy the "other side" is.

Hey, Canada, will you take me?

I'm no fan of John Boehner, but hostesly I am not very happy about this. As nutty as the GOP has become, I concerned about who they'll pick next.

He was also a pretty heavy drinker, and it really showed at points. I think this got to him as well---too much alcohol to try to drown his sorrows.

What's bad is that somebody even more right wing will probably replace him; Ug.

If they don't end up picking Kevin McCarthy as Speaker, I can see the next speaker being someone like Trey Gowdy or Louie Gohmert and then they'll end up showing the American people how crazy the GOP really is.

Question: how tenuous is Mitch McConnell's position?
