Yeah, we all know it's probably something a lot less interesting, but I love it when scientists have to plausibly talk about aliens. :icon_bigg

    More here.

Aliens are one thing. "Alien megastructures" are another. I would pretty much poop myself if they found a real Dyson sphere or ring.

As long as it's ET and not Xenomorph (or Predator) I'm ok with this.

As someone who really does believe life exists outside of Earth, this information makes me pretty confident that we may have actually found something. The only thing that concerns me is that this star is super far away (1480 light years). But anyways, I can't wait to hear about any future findings about this star.

But keep in mind this is all speculation. Many scientists believe it's just a large mass of comets around the star.

It could be a sunspot... Spacecraft Sees Giant 'Hole' In the Sun (Video)

I am not saying aliens do not exist, the universe is extremely large, it is a huge waste of space if it is just us, and what would be the odds of that?

Well, if it is aliens, I hope they are putting that energy to a good use and not to power their vaporizer.

At the same time we should all be thrilled to hear proof of intelligent aliens (it would be pretty much the biggest discovery in history) there's also a tiny element of disappointment. It means we likely wouldn't get to be the "precursor" race that evolves to godhood and seeds life among the stars.

A small quibble, though. Of course I hope it's aliens.

Well, with the problems we have right now, we're not exactly on track for godhood anyway.

To be honest, the concept of aliens rather frightens me.:icon_sad:

I'm still optimistic. Our technology is outrageous, and the problems of today are certainly no worse than they ever were in the past. The only shame is that we have not advanced socially nearly as fast as technologically. Perhaps if we do find aliens, we'll chill out with our divisive political crap and come together a bit.

Or they'll kill us and there won't be any problems anymore.

I just wish they would start looking for a world that could support plant life, and make it a mission to spread the greenery to another world, creating oxygen. Maybe in a few centuries it could be a home? Heck, even if earth was destroyed and no other life existed, the plants would live on. Maybe the start of something bigger.

But no, humans are far too worried about scrounging over inefficient fossil fuels and making laws about what women can and can't do with their junk.

I think this is rather cool. There is no way we are the only life in the universe. I'm sure there is intelligent life out there. Not always so sure about on this planet sometimes. Except for the octopus, of course.

This is cool! And scary…if they are advanced enough to be harnessing the power of the sun, then they are a very powerful civilization and if they're anything like we HORRIBLE humans are-then maybe they'll conquer us like the Spanish, French and English did with the Americas and Africa 0.0
That is of course assuming it's an alien megastructure  if not well then pshhh whatever

Do you mean the possibility that they might be dangerous, or something else?

It's definitely interesting. Part of me believes there's something else out there, mainly because I connect that with the "after-life."

I don't think it has to be bad - this could be a civilization that, I don't know, poops a cancer treatment (hey, anything could happen!)

I view alien life like the movie "Contact" or "Cocoon" - or at least I hope that's how it would be.
