Anonymous has released names of those they claim are tied to the KKK including some US Senators and mayors. The fact that the still even KKK exists makes me want to smash my face in my key board.

And surprisingly, one of the alleged KKK members may be an openly gay mayor.

Somehow I can't see the KKK being welcoming to Latinos, Catholics, gays or Democrats.

    I'm calling shenanigans.

They allow them to enter the KKK... but I'm guessing they still have to agree with what the KKK does.

They're a white supremacist group with sidelines in anti Catholicism and homophobia. I'm not seeing how a group like that would then accept those groups into their ranks.

When I first read this, I thought it was satire. Apparently, it's true.

One small sect's leader changing their recruitment policy does not equal the KKK being more inclusive, especially when the top guy in the KKK is a bit upset about the whole thing.

Well, at least someone did something about these people. Even though doxxing is wrong, and this information looks pretty fake... Hopefully some good will come of this. ^^

If it's true, that's disturbing. However, like GeeLee, I'm skeptical as well. In general, I'm skeptical of anything that "anonymous" has reportedly done.

It's plausible that there are some members of Congress who are part of a KKK chapter. It's also plausible, to a lesser degree, that at least one of these chapters will reluctantly accept people who the KKK has historically been against (since there is no unified KKK, only a bunch of independent groups doing their own things). But I find it less plausible that Latino and gay members of Congress belong to a chapter of the KKK. After all, what's in it for them to join a group with historical ties to racism and (to a much lesser degree) homophobia?

According to a commenter on an ibtimes article, Amped Attack, not Anonymous, was behind this list.

There's several things uncertain about this story. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these allegations turned out to be false. I'm more interested in seeing how the accused politicians react to this.

Can't help but think its a great way to discredit people who might be anti-KKK

A guy on a tv show once tried to join the KKK (for the informative sake of the show of course) despite having a half-Jewish ancestry. They said that since his mother's side was Jewish, and that's the side they consider lineage to follow, he was not allowed to join. But were it his father's side, he'd be allowed in.

It might be different for other targeted groups, but if it's similar, then they might be allowed in despite whatever hated status they have.

Unrelated, but the KKK is an infected boil on the body of humanity.

Yeah, The Anons behind OpKKK have said that this was not part of their operation. The identities of the 1,000 politicians with KKK ties will only be released by them on November 5th.

In past info upsets Anonymous has been excellent at obtaining accurate info. Have to wonder if the pre-release isn't an attempt to muddy the waters, cast doubt on the group or both.

I thought it was weird as well. This is Anonymous - they can do whatever they want....but can't control a list like this? Something happened and I just don't know what.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was just a muddying waters exercise. It's a great defence if you do get outed as a naughty KKK member, even if this first release hasn't actually come from Anonymous.

EDIT: I think this also shows the main danger of this kind of internet vigilantism/activism, namely innocent people being wrongly outed as members of a reprehensible organisation.
