News has come in recently, very sad news unfortunately. :frowning2:

Currently, it seems that at least 40 people have been killed in the attacks. You can follow the Guardian for more updates. I found it important to share it immediately:

I'll edit this post with more sufficient information when more details are known.

There has been an update. Not 26, but at least 40 people have been killed. So sad. :frowning2:

My national team was in the Stade de France when the explosions happened outside it. You could hear the explosion in the stadium. There was actually a bomb threat at the team hotel earlier. In hindsight, that seems like some extremely ominous foreshadowing. :frowning2:

And now 40 people are presumed dead? So pointless. Why people do this to other people is beyond me. It's insane.

They just started reporting that there's been another (third) shooting in Les Halles now. It's heartbreaking.

Oh goody, now there's going to be an even larger, more potent right-wing current in Europe and more anti-Muslim crimes.

    Why?

Can somebody explain to me the rationale behind these attacks? What the hell is happening?

This is my fear too. This stigma is already so great and this will only make it grow :frowning2:

It's been a terrible year for France. Absolutely appalling state of affairs.

Although I agree with your sentiments, I don't think that's the most important aspect given 40 people have been slaughtered.. I'm more concerned about France and the frequency of these attacks, and what they can do to prevent further ones.

What happened - and is happening - is horrible.
Hope there won't be any more victims, 40 or so is too much, but even "only" one would have been a terrible tragedy.
I'll never understand human cruelty. :frowning2:

As an atheist myself, I'm going to come out right now and say that nobody should blame Muslims as a whole for this. That would be like blaming all Christians for the Crusades. Just don't. It's a dick thing to do right now.

And for fuck's sake, if you're in Paris, take Daydreamer's advice and keep yourself safe. This is just getting worse and worse.

Knowing there's over 60 people being taken hostage only makes things worse, and I hope everyone gets home safe since I'm afraid the subway system will be a death trap.

The crusades happened during a time when there was zero respect for human rights, there was little respect for what we know today as morally right from wrong, with very limited information and appreciation of the human conditions. Human lives were given little importance back then.

The situation is in no way comparable.

They want war. They want us to get scared and elect right-wing fundies who will give it to them.
