Good news! Given how much coffee I drink, I guess I'll live forever.

It's funny seeing coffee as "healthy" drink. I can remember at least one "coffee causes cancer" scare, and I remember seeing a nutritional checklist telling kids that coffee is Bad Nutritionally, which probably dated to ca. 1970. (I think they opined cocoa is much better. Right. That sugar is so good for one. And in 2015, we also have the joys of modern conventional milk, such as rBST treated cows, as well as cows fed a diet which isn't natural for them.)

All in moderation haha. They say tea (Camellia sinensis plant) is good for you and has plenty of antioxidants. But, I drink it as iced tea, heavily sweetened. Any benefits of drinking it are probably cancelled by the sugar, haha.

Same with coffee, I would guess. Go easy on the sugar .

Oh, I've seen a bajillion studies like this. Did you also know coffee can make your risk of premature death higher?

Oh, just in, coffee makes your risk of premature death lower!

I swear, this whole thing keeps going back and forth.

We're all gonna die one day regardless, so just drink the damn coffee.

I'll only drink coffee as long as it isn't from Starbucks or McDonald's and there has to be a bunch of creamer in there. Also I'm not gonna drink anymore than 1 glass a day because then my heart skips beats and I start to shake.

Does this count for instant coffee? Because I have nescafe, because I can't be bothered with an hour+ a day of my life making 'real' coffee.

Interesting. I'm guessing it could possibly be down the antioxidants in the cacoa? Or possibly even the caffeine increasing the heart-rate thus "exercising" the heart (somewhat like the studies suggesting sleeping too much being harmful - the heart isn't exerted enough).

But, I take it all with a pinch of salt anyway (if the sodium police let me!).

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any food product or beverage left that hasn't had some major health scare around it.

I think it is more unhealthy to live a life of fear trying to avoid things. Plus it seems so reductionist, diverting so much attention to "possibly" living marginally longer. I wouldn't advocate going out and doing something obviously harmful like drugs or cigarettes, but at the same time I'm not stressing out if I have some sausages (even slightly burnt ones! Arrrgh the carcinogens!!!) or a danish pastry. Life is far too short for that.
