    New York Times - Penis Transplants Being Planned to Help Wounded Troops


    Expensive at $200,000 but who knows. Maybe in lets say 10 or 20 years trans people could possibly get a transplant for FTM?

    Isn't it a tad creepy you're getting a dead dick? Honestly if I was offered the opportunity I'd jump on it but still, sorta gross. :lol:

    Yeah it's a tad creepy. But do you get to choose your dick? I imagine it to be a lot like lottery. You might end up with an extremely big or small or just very disproportionate one!

    It is an unusual thought.

    However what is probably more unusual is one of the most common "donations" out there is gum grafts (following gum disease/injury/cancers) which usually comes from processed cadaver (dead body) tissue. So a little bit of a dead person sewn in your mouth!

    A little creepy, absolutely amazing science, but a little creepy. :lol:

    They did the first successful penis transplant in South Africa last year... Incidentally the same hospital where the first heart transplant was done in 1967.

    The penis is fully functional, the guy had sex with his girlfriend a couple of months after the transplant, so pretty amazing.

    When it comes to sex change operations, as with the uterus transplants the biggest issue is blood supply and the necessary muscles to support the organ... The speed at which medicine is advancing I wouldn't be surprised if they figure out how to solve that in the next couple of years. Who knows, they might even be able to grow one from your own cells one day, they're already growing bladders in laboratories so it's a matter of time.

    That's my concern! I'm gay but I honestly find a large proportion of penises to be sort of gross looking. Sure, there's some really nice ones, but most leave something to be desired.

    Anyways, I just studied transplantation at school and seeing all the issues I think I would stay penis-less for now if I were the soldier. It's really not as simple as just connecting the nerves and blood vessels and skin and connective tissues... and making sure it works... You have to force the body to accept it... transplantation is far from routine...
