Louisiana family's Christmas photo shared on Facebook slammed as 'sexist' | Daily Mail Online

I think this was just a funny idea, it mighn't even because they're females, it might be an inside joke because maybe these girls talk alot.

    Whats your opinion?

I think if it was an inside joke, or any joke, then it needs to be explained. [or maybe that's just me because I never get jokes, however obvious to other people].

I'd like to know your opinion on this - if the image was the other way around, as in the males with green tape on their mouths and the females standing there with 'peace on earth' sign - would you hold the same opinion as you do now?

    Probably not sexist, but...disturbing nonetheless.

Clear inside joke. I could actually post a similar picture of my family. My mom talks non-stop and so do my sisters. If this was posted on the family's FB page, I see no reason to explain it as it was probably meant for the people who know this family. I think people need to stop being offended about everything.

I'd say it's not sexist, after all, it's not like they're taking random women off the street and putting tape over their mouths. It's just a joke within that family. Slightly odd picture, I have to say.

I wouldn't call it sexist but... does that family have some sort of kinky incest fetish?

Okay, this is obviously meant as a joke that some people are taking too seriously. I'm surprised it's even news.

Rather obviously a joke either way, isn't it?

I find the photo disturbing, particularly the look on the mother's face.
But I also think facebook taking it down is over reacting.

I thought it was funny, if it was the other way round I would still find it funny

    1) it should have stayed in Louisiana in that family and to whoever is on their card list or whatever, but

    2) now that it's out and on the internet, it's fair game for everyone's opinion to emerge, and mine is that it is disturbing. If the women had the men tied, it wouldn't be the typical Archie Bunker type 1950's joke, so it might be cute and empowering. But men have the physical strength and size, and many females live in fear of this. For the women to be duct-taped AND tied? And the men laughing? Yeah I have a problem with it. But it was just a stupid card. And it wasn't meant for my eyes, but I still pity the girls in that family.

There's a chance they're just a happy go lucky family and the women are chatterboxes and the husband grins and bears it and the photo is a weird result. But there's a chance he rules that house with supreme authority and this 'tounge-in-cheek' photo was really his idea, and the mom and young girls ask him how high when he says jump. (Yes the wife says the photo was her idea but abused women are programmed to defend their abuser - think Ray Rice).

One in four women experience physical abuse in their lifetime, so I'm gonna go with the PC crowd on this one.

Would have to disagree with this... It's true that a man would be more able to do that to a woman, but are you honestly insinuating that a joke about a woman doing it to a man is okay but not a man doing it to a woman? It seems like a major double standard... It's almost like you're saying that there are no cases of women trying to rape or tie up a man.

Skaros, Plattyrex, yes I was pulling a double standard there, you caught me. point taken.

Agree with you both that it was [probably innocently, jokingly] intended without malice or degradation. At least I hope so.

Hmmm a picture really is worth a thousands words.

If the family wanted to do a photo like this, let them. No matter what the joke is here, it's a rather interesting Christmas card to say the least.

The photographer is getting some nice publicity now.

It is sexist. But it is freaking hilarious. I don't think any reasonable females would object to it.
