Re: Guy stands up for drag queen against homophone on train

I think that the world needs more people like that, more people who stand up for others. The ones who just stand there listening to someone getting bullied are the worst. It has always been taught to us at school that if you see bullying and do nothing about it, you become as bad as the bully. I like how the guy remains mostly calm and tries to explain that the way other people dress doesn't affect on the homophobe's life. I think that the best way to stand up to bullies is not to let yourself on their level, but to stay above them, not get angry yourself (at least not showing it) and just look like whatever they're saying isn't getting to you and you know that you're right and they're wrong. Being confident and stable, standing behind your words.

I haven't witnessed homophobia anywhere public but I have been in a bus with a racist woman (I'd say bitch but I don't want to be a hypocrite ) screaming and talking shit about a man next to her and it's one of the most horrible moments in my life, having to just listen to it without anyone coming for his rescue or at least showing that they're on his side. I was absolutely terrified of her because she seemed aggressive and I felt so bad that I couldn't bring myself to say anything. Luckily the adults started to get tired of her too and the situation was solved by the bus driver. The woman started to talk shit about the man again when we were waiting for the police to show up and then I told her that she should just keep her mouth shut because she would only cause even more harm for herself.

What did you think about this video?

I think that guy is awesome, and we need more people who will stand up to bullies. It's sickening to sit thete and listen to it without standing up for the victim.

Now I can understand that not everyone is going to like gay people, or drag queens, or other certain groups for that matter. But I think that if someone is on a subway with you and they're not doing anything to you, then you should just keep your mouth shut and go about your day. You might not agree with it, but oh well you don't like the drag queen, then move to a different spot and don't look at them. I can understand if like a gay guy starts hitting on a straight guy and the straight guy tells him to stop. But flipping out on someone and telling them they're sick when they didn't even do anything to you is screwed up and extremely unnecessary.

I try to stand up for people when I have the chance. I haven't always had positive experiences though. When I was still in high school, there was a girl on my bus that would get picked on by some of the other kids. One of the times, I told them off, telling them to just leave her alone and stop being assholes. And what did she do? She turned on me! She called me a bitch or something and to shut the hell up. I lost it and flipped out on her too. I told her to never call me that again and that she never better want my help again because I would never give it to her again, and she shouldn't be an ass to someone that is on her side. To this day, I still don't understand why she reacted like that to me. I didn't do anything to her, I was trying to help her out...But that's the only time that anyone ever treated me like that after I stood up for them. So it's not like it's all bad.

And the homophobe pulls the religious card... I'll try my best not to disrespect the religious members here on EC, but religion is probably one is one of the stupidest arguments against homosexuality.

:eusa_doh: Yeah, I meant "b" not "t". Damn, I can't even correct myself right. I was very tired when I made this thread. :bang: Probably anyway, seems like something I would do when tired.

The homophobe's behavior is a disgrace to his religion.

Eh, I'm a bit lost here myself. But I know people aren't always the best with pronouns and the like, since they don't seem to teach it properly in schools, or it could be a misunderstanding?

I would use neutral pronouns in that situation, but I'd imagine that most AMAB crossdressers would prefer female pronouns when dressing female.

None taken here. It's an honest truth that needs to be disseminated through every religion.
