Yup, this year started off on a sad note.

So many death in so little time. Celine Dion is quite the star here, so I believe we'll be having many memorials to her losses.

    Agreed, AtheistWorld.

I really couldn't care less about this. It's no more interesting than any other random stranger that I don't know dying. And it shouldn't be seen as a greater loss than any other less "successful" person taking their last breath. Stop invading celebrities' lives and stop making it out as though they are better than the rest of us.

    Wow harsh much?

Yeah it might not mean shit you but there are a lot of people who look up this woman and see her as their hero. No one said she is better than anyone, she is in the end just human, but it is not a bad thing to sympathize with someone who has suffered two deaths in a matter of day.

These people always have a point to prove. I wouldn't waste your time engaging with them tbh.

She's not having the best of weeks, is she?

Yeah, she may be wealthy and famous, but she still has feelings. She still hurts.

"These people", huh? What kind of "person" am I? I simply don't happen to endorse the idea that celebrities are more "special" than ordinary folk.

In other news: Terrorists (IS) brutally slaughter over 300 people and kidnap 400.

How does the death of this one person compare?

Sure, it's sad. Death is sad. My concern is that society is very poor at prioritizing what it cares about, and it shows an unpleasant amount of favoritism.

    End of rant.

So if your mother died tomorrow it would have the same impact on you as those 300 persons brutally slaughtered by terrorists?

I would like to see you prioritizing your emotions in that instance. If you can prioritize your emotions then you are not human.

Well if you have an issue with it then start a rant thread else where on this forum, or post a news thread talking about that instead of stirring shit up here.
You are coming off as insensitive, but from what I've seen you don't really care.

And yes "those people". The kind of people who go into a thread to stir shit up.
Kind of like how an anti-trans person goes into the comment section of a pro-trans article just to comment how much they hate trans people. Thus causing a comment war.
Using that example so you can feel you can relate to it more.

Lol, wtf you talking about? I was talking about RANDOM people. Strangers.

I just happen to believe people are of equal worth (assuming they're not mass murderers or so). But society disagrees. And so I like to say something about it every once in a while. But no, people don't like that. No, let's continue on keeping things as they are for 50-100 years or so until climate change starts collapsing society without doing anything. We'll be real proud looking back.

^Please stop being so insensitive. The fact that there are other world issues present on Earth does not take away from the fact that people ARE affected by this death. So please show some respect and let people grieve. It might mean nothing to you, but it's not 'small' to us.

What are you even talking about? No on here said anything about holding Celine Dion to a higher standard than other people besides you. Making a post about a celebrity doesn't automatically make you careless about non celebrities.

How are people suppose to make threads talking about hundreds of people dying daily they've never heard of before? If you're so passionate about those nameless people where are your threads? Get off your pedestal.

Lastly wtf does any of this have to do with climate change? Are you saying people can't talk about celebrities AND care about our planet? What are you doing to change climate change?

Oh btw, I don't really like Celine or think her husband and brothers deaths are important but coming into a thread acting like it's the end of the world because someone has a different opinion makes you look foolish.

Celine Dion is a public figure and not a random stranger. We are mourning the fact that she has suffered two tragic personal losses in the space of a week.

How is this making us responsible for climate change and the collapse of society?

I think you are reaching too far.

    Hey everyone,

Please remind to keep the discussion civil, respecting others opinions and feelings on the matter.

It is totally fine to have different views, but let's keep the thread focused on discussing the subject respectfully

    Thanks folks!

I have to disagree completely friendo, losing two family members in the same week is pretty exceptional even if she's famous. I understand you're feeling numb towards death however some of the words you've chosen come off as pretty harsh, even to me.
