    Full Story

    There's three bills actually;

    One that would 'protect' conversion therapy, and another that, "The bill states that no public school “counselor, therapist, social worker, administrator, teacher or other individual” can “refer a student under the age of eighteen” to any “individual, organization or entity” if the referral “pertain to human sexuality.” In fact, public school counselors can’t even “provide the contact information, business card, brochure or other informational materials” of a gay-friendly organization to students."

    The other one to protect 'Aversion Therapy" : “Aversion therapy” means any counseling by a mental health provider that exposes or asks a client or patient to undergo physical pain, such as electroshock or electroconvulsive therapy, touch therapy, pornography exposure or vomit-induction therapy, in order to change sexual behaviors or gender-identity expressions and/or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."

    And a third that would stop any two HIV positive people from getting married.

    I'm pretty doubtful these would pass, but it's scary, the things Republicans cook up, and important that we keep them out of power, inasmuch as possible.

    The fight is not over; these are exactly the things Ted Cruz would love to see, and then some...

    1 is bad because schools should have more choice, and 3 is unnecessary. This why the government shouldn't try to enforce morals. 2 is wrong for obvious reasons.

    I wish these people would stop making Republicans bad.

    If they're just going to be this bad they need to at least put aside enough funding so that we can easily leave. You know, if you don't want us here than allow us a way out? I'll never understand.

    Reminds me of how counties with sharia law would rather kill atheists, even children, than allow us to leave. Not a good direction to be stepping in. :dry:

    It is virtually impossible for me to wrap my mind around such evil ignorance. As a Christian, it is unsound theology and contrary to what my faith is about.

    Are there no more sane adults in the Republican party? At what point did the GOP, become totally hijacked by the Tea Party, pandering to the lowest common denominator. Where are the Log Cabin Republicans speaking out against such outrageous legislation?

    I am so sick and tired of individuals such as this woman having co-opted my religion and my former political party (how can I support a party that would just as soon see me dead...go Bernie) for their own twisted machinations.

    Appalling.

    3 is totally necessary... if your goal is to try to side-step Obergefell v Hodges. It's the same play book that the south has been using for decades to try to bypass anything that prevents discrimination. Voter "tests" in the 60s to disenfranchise black voters, burdens placed on abortion clinics that make it impossible to operate, etc.

    That said, it may not work exactly as intended, but the whole point is to pivot the ban in such a way that they can claim it isn't about <insert type of discrimination here>.

    By the "logic" of this bill I suppose we should also convert left-handers to right-handers and have black people stop being black. This constant attempt to strip LGBT people of their rights is just sickening. How do you guys in the states continue to put up with this bullshit in 2016?

    Oklahoma is a conservative bible belt state. My guess is these insidious bills in Oklahoma are primarily driven by devout Christians.

    It's interesting how the American (USA) press demonizes regimes throughout the world - North Korea, Syria, on and on. Said press attack said regimes for inhumane treatment of it's citizens.

    But what do we call what is happening in Conservative vill America? Instead of State sponsored oppression of citizens, what America has is Religious sponsored oppression. I consider Christianity to be one of the great evils of our world today.

    The sad part is that sometimes people think they can just write these things off--that these would never pass because they're too "extreme", but sometimes laws like this can pass quietly, especially if they're put under the guise of "protecting religious freedom". It is very important to vote and make sure that bills like this do not pass. We do seem to focus a lot of on "atrocities" elsewhere and egregious laws in the Middle East and Africa, but you don't need to look far to see egregiousness at its source. No amount of "religious freedom" justifies laws like these.
