Well, I guess now he can pout and throw tantrums, for a while.

Cruz seems even more un-electable in a general election, and the race is early. And though I hate Cruz, it's fun to see Donald Trump's spoiled man-boy ego deflated.

And the Republican clown show rolls on...

I didn't see that one coming! Then again, Sarah Palin will make anyone lose.

    Re: Trump loses Iowa Caucas

Cruz is about 100x more anti-gay than Trump and about 100x the liar.

Also, Iowa for Republicans doesn't really mean much. I think for the past 16 years, no Republican that won Iowa actually got the candidacy.

I hope people realize this Cruz win is NOT a good thing for us...

    Agreed!

I can't see Trump or Cruz getting elected in the general; and Iowa is not really a good representation of the US population.

But it is fun to see Mr. Billionaire wind-bag lose, nonetheless. I can't stand the hateful rhetoric he's used against just about every minority group. It's not just about him trying not to be 'politically correct', it's about basic decency, and Trump has behaved like a 70 year old bully and baby.

I can't stand either of them, and hope they waste all their money attacking each other.

    Re: Trump loses Iowa Caucas

The only reason I hope Trump gets the nomination is because he's less electable than Cruz. He would lose to either Democratic candidate. Cruz, on the other hand, does stand a chance against Hillary...

I don't see this as something to celebrate--I dislike Cruz much more and he's more of a threat to win the presidency.

The thing is, Trump has said that if he isn't the republican candidate, he'll run as an independent. And this is going to split the republican voters, because there are those who will follow trump, and those who will follow the party. This split will just hand the vote to the Democrats.

So let Cruz be the candidate.

No. He said he wasn't going to do this. He confirmed that he will go in all or nothing. So no. Don't let Cruz be the candidate.

I know Burnie confirmed he wouldn't, but last I heard Trump was saying he would go independent...

If he maintains any sort of popularity after going Independent, he's going to wreck the Republicans' chances. If Sanders is the Dem candidate, that's good news.

That's what I'm saying. But then Skaros said he confirmed he wouldn't go independent?

I don't even think Cruz is in any way better than Trump. He's a radical but in a more serious, less baffoon-like way. Like, whereas Trump could never be elected for so many reasons, Cruz is also an awful choice bunch of ways, but it's actually more plausible because he's not obscene and crude like Trump is.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Trump has done so much pandering that a lot of what he says seems phony. Cruz, on the other hand, you have no choice but to believe he seriously means everything he says. Iowa does tend to pick the most religious most conservative Republican who does not end up winning, so there is an encouraging trend here that may be followed, but we shall see.

Seems like the GOP are being asked whether they want their man to be a massive racist or a massive homophobe.

Meanwhile on the Democratic side, it was the closest finish in Iowa caucus history.

We discussed the primaries in Gov today in class at my school. Apparently, Trump probably had more support in Iowa but it's usually only politically consistent people that go to caucuses. This means the more conservative or liberal would win. That explains why Huckabee and Santorum, the evangelical nutjobs, won in Iowa the past 8 years but didn't get the nomination.

This is another repeat. Trump will still probably get the nomination as he is way ahead in all the polls in most states and he's not as conservative as Cruz. Here's to Trump getting the nomination so that Democrats can win!

The last six votes were by coin flips because people were so split they couldn't decide. Hillary won all 6. She ended up winning by 4 votes with 701 to 697. Without the 6 coin flip votes, it would be a Bernie win with 697 to 695. If we assume that have the coin flips went to Hillary and half went to Bernie with each getting 50% chance, Bernie would have won by only 2 votes with 700 to 698.

This is one of those times where yes... one or two votes actually could have made a big difference. So in the end, one could argue that Hillary actually didn't win.

I can't stand Ted Cruz. He has the bat shit insane views of Donald Trump and the deceptive sociopathic nature of Hilary Clinton put together. I would rather have literally anybody on either ticket than I would Ted Cruz.

Basically Donald Trump, who was flayed by the media and ripped to shreds by a baying crowd of what can be best described as ‘the easily-offended crowd’ brought in record voters and got the second highest vote in history in the state that Cruz was most popular.

That in itself is a huge win. What Trump supporters were worried about was the impact the result would have on Trump, who isn’t used to anything remotely associated with losing. The race however, has just begun. Bring on New Hampshire!

P.S Trump lost because in Iowa the moderate Evangelicals went with him, with the hard-lined ones going for Cruz and undecided voters going for Rubio. His not attending the debate may also not have been as clever as predicted but everyone makes mistakes, except those who do nothing. Iowa however is the state which is associated with a lot of political resentment and traditions, so people would vote likely for that one person who they related to the most: Ted Cruz. The very public polling and the humiliation inflicted on Trump's voters by the media yesterday, a large portion being first-time voters, had a definite impact, however his race is far from over.

    #TeamTrump
