LGBT News Gay Man Bashed In SF On Super Bowl Weekend For Wearing White Pants

But seriously, this just shows that bigots will use any excuse to attack random strangers.

From the little I know about this story, it's possible it was made up to get donations. Nevertheless...

This is partly why I get upset when I hear people speak as if homophobia were a thing of the past. It isn't. Even in San Francisco - arguably the most gay friendly large city in America, and a "gay Mecca" - it's very likely that one would face homophobia from time to time at least from visitors.

Pretty much all of my extended family members are very conservative, homophobic Catholics. Where would they go whenever they visited us growing up in the Bay Area? They might go to several tourist locations, but they all go to San Francisco because that's where most of the tourist attractions are.

Gay bashing is the rare extreme in San Francisco, but my point is that you can't really escape homophobia anywhere. And San Francisco didn't use to be as (relatively) gay friendly as it is today: People had to work at it to make it that way.

 

The heck? I can only imagine how worse it is *everywhere else* outside of this supposed "gay Mecca"

On a funnier note , I wouldn't wear white to a Super Bowl or party. Too many chances chips and dip, beer, and wings will end up on the pants :lol:.

To be honest, this does not sound like a hate crime. Just because he is gay and got beaten up does not automatically mean that it was the reason why he was beaten up. Wearing white pants is hardly a gay trademark but odd reason to get beaten nonetheless.

Plus the fact that he tries to financially gain from this incident is highly suspicious. I doubt he was so badly beaten that his actual damages go to $10k. Besides, if the perpetrators are caught and forced to pay compensations what is he going to do with that $10k? Put in his pocket?

I agree with much of the material quoted above. To me something sounds "strange" about this incident, if indeed it did occur.

And in all honesty the police should be brought into the equation so responsible parties can be held accountable.
