Andy Wachowski Comes Out as Transgender, Goes by Lilly | Variety

The second Wachowski, Andy, has come out as transgender and is now going by Lilly Wachowski.
So I guess they're the Wachowski Sisters, now!

    The article continues:

I liked all of their movies except Jupiter Ascending. This is pretty amazing to read, and it's coming from a fairly trusted source (Variety) so I guess we can take this at face value. That's pretty amazing that both siblings are transgender. I'm not, so I don't really understand that sort of thing or the genetics or whatever behind it, but it's amazing that two people born male, who were brothers were both women on the inside. What does everybody make of this?

Seriously? What are the chances? XD That's cool though. I haven't seen a lot of their movies but I'd love to see their increased confidence and a return to the greatness of the first Matrix.

Did you see Cloud Atlas? That was their best film since The Matrix, in my opinion. Just avoid Jupiter Ascending.

    Both? No shit...

Also, I could sense the running out of time being a glamorous gurl undertones from Jupiter Ascending.

    Interesting.....

Wachowski sisters now, I suppose. Yes it is pretty rare to have trans siblings, but that does provoke the intriguing subject of how genetics relates to this. I'm glad for her that she's able to live authentically now, despite all the disgusting reactions from the general populous.

(Totally unrelated, but I just realized I've hit my 1000th post!)

Is it okay to call them the Wachowski Sisters, now? I mean, is that... is that allowed? I don't know how transgender stuff works so I don't know if it's okay to say that they're sisters or not, now...

I've not seen CA nor Jupiter, but have heard the former was confusing and the latter was juvenile. But I can't agree with either criticism without having seen them, so maybe I'll check it out hehe.

Well if she's a transwoman, then yes, she would have all of the relative words that are associated to women, used for her. The two are sisters, since both are transwomen; they would be straight if they were into men, lesbian if into women, bi if into both, etc, etc.

From a lot of reading I've been doing lately I've learned that its not uncommon to find more than one transgender person in a family. Its why doctors are starting to think that besides the parental hormones thing in the womb, there also might be a genetic component to being transgender.

I for one love their Cloud Atlas movie

    Me too, holy shit...

I'm fan of their movies, and one of the speeches that hit me as I was struggling myself with my own gender issues was Lana's, I love that girl... We'll see about Lilly, 'cause her sister, as a trans advocate, just rocks.

About trans running on families, I always have to remember my grandmother saying which girl didn't ever wanted to be a boy? Too many to count, granny, will you finally come out at 80? 'Cause it's about bloody time, you know

Well, I for one don't care what sexual organs the Wachowskis have, I just hope they get back in the swing of making good movies. Jupiter Ascending was a morosely bland and plotless film that I still don't understand what the plot was to it. Maybe because Lilly hadn't accepted herself yet or something during the filming of that movie it had a negative impact on the film itself. A director has to be happy in order for a good movie to be made. Or at least content with themselves.

If a key figure making a film is unhappy, the entire movie suffers. Look at all the Transformers movies, or better yet the remake of Village of the Damned, John Carpenter didn't want to direct that movie, if I recall correctly he did it as a favor to someone at the studio and the end product was less than his usually stellar quality. The new Fantastic Four is a great example of everybody on the set being miserable and the overall quality of the movie suffers for it. Waterworld (as much as I love that movie) had miserable on-set relations with the crew and Kevin Costner was a total diva during production of it and the movie suffered publicity-wise for its infamously hideous on-set living conditions.

I hope that Lilly and Lana Wachowski are happier now, so that they can give us another film like V For Vendetta or The Matrix, or even something of their Speed Racer caliber would be good to get them back on track to making great films, again. I'm a total cinephile and their movies have almost always blown me away so as long as they're happy, their audiences should be happy, too.

I like these directors and I'm happy for them. I love the current show they are working on Sense8. I can't wait for season 2. It's also super LGBT friendly.

Yeah I thought this was old news too but I'm happy for them. I think we still have a long way to go for people's understanding on being a transgender and it's annoying that we have to spoon feed these people because trans people are dying and getting killed.

I love Sense8 and I love not only the diversity of the show but tackles the struggles and issues of the lgbtq+ community.
