    Just... wow.

My heart goes out to all LGBT people in North Carolina.
Why do people have to spread hate against things they don't understand, for things that don't affect them? For things we have no control over?

I hope this obviously unconstituional law gets bopped in the head. But somehow, I doubt it. I wish this was a one-off case, but laws like these are far too common.

I'd think they'd want to focus on giving people more personal freedoms if they enjoy calling themselves "land of the free" so much, rather than taking them away for no reason. I'm pretty sure the only freedoms they care about are the ones that say they can practice their religion (Not caring about whether others can or not) and to carry around assault weapons. I feel like they might need a bit of a priority adjustment to say the least.

Will this law give police and teachers the right to check someone's genitals before they use the bathroom? If not this law is totally unenforceable.

My initial reaction was WTF...... who elected these morons?

... This makes me so angry. :***:

And it happened so quickly, too! Conception to being signed into the law in a couple of hours.

And I thought things were looking better for America a few months ago.
    What a joke...
    Nothing's changed. At all.

    I don't blame you.

I just hope someone decides to overthrow this law for being unconstitutional. But somehow... I doubt it.

I can't leave this country fast enough. I'm going to just keep my mouth shut before I offend half the US population.

That is unfortunate as well as unsurprising. This is just a political stunt, masked as a "privacy concern" but truly a condemnation of transgender freedom.

What we'd need to do is amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 so that sexual orientation and gender identity are included in that. We've needed to do that for decades, while the focus has always been on marriage. Well, we have that now. But we still don't have what could have prevented many backsteps towards it.

This is so utterly vile. I just heard about this. My heart goes out to all the transgender people over in North Carolina.

"Land of the free". Pfft. Yeah, right. America is getting more and more dystopian with every passing day.

Is there anything that can be done about this? Petitions or anything like that? I haven't heard of anything along those lines starting up, but I want to help if there's any way I can.

This is horrible. I can't say I'm surprised, with the rhetoric in my own state being a bunch of angry old white men screaming "we can't let them threaten our religious freedom" when someone suggests that maybe you shouldn't tell an lgbt person they're going to hell by merit of existing.

I don't care what lame justification they're trotting out for it this time. It comes down to people in power desperately clinging to the status they've held onto for decades as privileged dominators with the power and sanction to step all over people they don't like.

The outrage at it from other parts of the states, and even from within NC and the Southern US itself, can be encouraging. But it still stings every time I'm reminded that most people in my home state wouldn't even bat an eye if I were to get hurt or die. I want so badly for the US to be the bastion of freedom and equality its been claiming to be since its inception.

Hopefully this will get the same reaction after the fact as indiana, and north carolina too will be shamed into repealing it. Disgusting in every way, like many of its citizens

I think it's because of the bathroom issue.

If I was in your situation I'd want to get out of dodge too.

Especially given that, well, this just passed.

Anyway... I just thought that if this isn't bopped on the head, other states may end up passing similar laws in a similarly fast fashion because they'd feel they can get away with it.

Just more reason to hope this goes down ASAP.
